When i try to play a game i get taken to the main menu every time now instead of the game. i have tried playing several games and none of them work either. I have cleaned the discs and the reader lense inside and the game discs still do not spin. please please help!

Some time when that happens the system configuration is wrong reset the configuration to game play on. That should let you play Movies and game.But!, make sure you remove the disk.
Well if the regular dvd's dont work.. I would recommend you to buy
Blu-Ray movies instead.. PS3 is the best known blu-ray player. buy at least one blu-ray movie and try that.

sounds like the laser's stuffed. the lasers in those machines are notoriously bad. you'd best be careful. a dodgy laser will cause laser-burn to the discs. i had the same thing on my machine. i could play a couple of games, then there was some that would work after i took them out and put them in, several times. after fixing the laser, ive not had the problem again.
Question: does it play blueray movies? Mine did this, but would still play movies. I found a "Corrupted Data" file in my Games/data folder, and ended up doing a quick restore, under ths System menu. I now have no problems in this area...games start properly every time. You will lose all your saves and any dowloaded content, so back up if you can.
You are trying to play dvd's? Then you will need the remote sensor plugged in to the box before it plays movies. IT's called a xbox dvd movie playback kit. Part # x08-25387
