You'll need to replace the Palm Rest assembly to permanently fix the issue. For parts, go here: http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=404&prevaction=category&previd=140&prevstart=48

My cursor jumps around while I am typing often starting up in the middle of typed area oping r if I pause while ty it just happened here....now.. see "oping" r "ty"????!!!!!!

This is usually due to your base of your thumbs touching the mouse pad while you are typing. Some touchpads will let you disabe the mouse pad while typing. Go to control panel-mouse- and look in the properties. There may also be an option to disable the touchpad when you plug a mouse in. Hope this helps

While I type, often the cursor moves to the poit where the mouse icon is locatde, as if the touchpad has been pressed.

yeah you have touch sensitivity set to high in the touch pad and your wrist is hitting the touch pad. go your touch pad settings in the control panel and turn it down til when your wrist brushes it, it doesn't move the mouse.

My Mouse track pad is pushing the mouse into the upper right corner of the screen. Do I need a new thumbpad? Is this an easy fix? Should I send it in?

Hi there, please open your touchpad settings and set the touch pad thumb pressing sense location. Make it center of touch pad & save the settings. Total sensible location is 5. 4 corner & 1 center. Just fixed center. Its will work proper. If not then go for new one.
Thanks & waiting for your feedback.

The left key on my dell touchpad is not working

Hello,

that part of the touch pad is not working anymore, its faulty and you need to replace the whole touch pad.

I don't know why this is mostly common with Dell. My friend has a Dell inspirion 1501 and the touch pad has exactly the same problem as yours.

I would advice you get a USB mouse to keep you going pending the time you get the touch pad fixed.

I wish you the best of luck.

Mouse keeps shifting the cursor to a different place in document

On touchpads if you touch the pad twice in quick succession it acts as a click and the cursor will move to the mouse pointer location. In mouse settings disable "tapping"

I have trouble when typing. The letters skip all over text.

Do you have a small button on the top side of the touch pad that will allow you to turn off the mouse? I bet that you are accidently touching the mouse pad with your thumb while you are typing, and this is causing your problem. I have the same problem if I do not turn off the touch pad on my laptop.

Good luck, and please rate me, OK?

Whilst typing the cursor moves to another part of the document

If your laptop has the option too you can turn off touch pad through a switch above the touch pad.

If you can't find this, or you don't have one, simply go to the run command and type in devmgmt.msc, ok.

Once in the device manager go "Mice and Other Pointing Devices"
look for your touchpad, right click on it and select disable.

Please note, some laptops wont let you disable to the touchpad, mine wont, but mine has an on and off key.

ON/OFF Key
Touch Pad On
Touch Pad Off

This will keep the mouse from moving whole you type, but I suggest you get a regular mouse, especially if you have to disable the device with the Device manager.

When typing on toshiba the curser skip and actually moves

It might be that your palm is brushing across the intel touch pad (mouse pad) as you're typing?.. try holding down the function key (Fn) (on the lower left corner of the keyboard) while pressing F9 (this activates the "Toshiba Flash Cards Menu" and is a keyboard shortcut to toggle off/on the touch/mouse pad. You can turn it back on this way too. I almost always use a conventional USB mouse with my laptop for this reason and because it's faster than fiddling around with the pad, IMHO).

I don't know if you mean that your cursor suddenly moves as you are typing? If so, it is likely your touch pad is too sensitive. I have a mouse w/mouse pad but never disabled the touch pad. So i disabled the touch pad and it solved it for me. If you want to be sure it is the touch pad being over sensitive, then type a paragraph but keep your fingers and palms far away from the touch pad. If the problem improves, like it did for me, then the touchpad is too sensitive. You can go into the settings for the touchpad to change the sensitivity setting to make it less senstive and see if that works and it does not then press Fn +F7 keys to disable the touchpad.

Mouse cursor moving by itself

i have latitude c610 and same problem happens with me too. i think that happens when i finish my brakfat and without cleaning my hands start using the touch pad. what happens according to me is that small particles of food(eg bread/dust particles) stuck in the corners or the body wall where the touch pad ends and keeps pressing the touchpad, thus causing the mouse to move to one direction. when i clean the corners and sides of the touchpad, it starts working ok !!

thanks
Johal
