I have an Acer Travelmate 4060 laptop which i used for along time without any problems ... but all of a sudden when i boot up it asks for a password and so wont boot to windows . I did not put a password on the machine and im pretty sure nobody else has without my knowledge. Is there anyway to bypass this password or to reset it . Thanks

Re: Re: Acer Travelmate BIOS password problem

U sure it's u're laptop !?!?!!!?! hmmm

If the password is on the bios, than open the case, find the bios reset pin and short it (or remove the bios batery for 5 sec. ), if the password is on the disk drive(implemented throw bios), than is nothing u can do !!!! (exept go to the laptops manufacurer and pay(a lot) him to remove the password !)

How to remove bios password

Hi JM,
On the motherboard, there are jumpers to reset the board, but you have to do it while the power is off. you can go HERE and put in your system info, which may help you find out how to do this or to reset the password without jumping the system. I found on another site the following:
"If the user can boot the Acer, he/she may be able to reset the BIOSpassword using Acer eSettings Management.
  • Click the Start button
  • Click the All Programs menu item
  • Click the Empowering Technologymenu item
  • Click the Acer eSettings Managementmenu item
  • Once inside Acer eSettings Management, click the Securitybutton.
Acer refuses to assist customers with BIOS password issues. The only option they discuss involves sending the laptop to them and paying a $100 fee."
I hope this is helpful to you

After upgrding memory acer travelmate 4060 does not recognise memry upgrade

The specs call for DDR2 533MHz SODIMMs. The max supported RAM is only 2GB, and to be safe no larger than 1GB per slot (because of the performance hit not operating in dual channel mode where applicable and occasionally PCs and laptops not liking having only one slot populated). ^_^

I have a acer travelmate 2428anwxci. When I plug in

Thsi problem arise when you have a bad BIOS version. Normally, you should update the BIOS with the latest version. go to and download a latest BIOS together with the flash tool. you should be able to charge the battery normally.

Bios password

The only way to solve your BIOS password is to open the laptop and remove its button cell meant to run the clock and BIOS. You will have to reach the mother board and do it. Remove it for a minute or so and then connect up everythig as it was. And remember not to gove any passwords any where in future.

Password bloked in my laptop

Unplug AC power. Remove the battery. If there is a CMOS battery (a rarity for laptops now), remove that as well. Press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds. Replace batteries. Reconnect AC power. Turn on machine. CMOS should be reset to defaults.

Break bios password in acer 2420 travelmate laptop

remove the cover which has your power button and covers the LCD cables. Remove the keyboard and flip it over, being careful to not pull too hard on the cable. There's 2 small triangular silver connection pads beside the keyboard connector on the main board - connect them together and power on your computer (flat screwdriver works fine). Press the f2 key - you'll find it doesn't prompt you for a password. You can lift off the connections now. Go to exit and save changes, and you're password free.

Bios reset

As another option you could try resetting the jumper. Some boards save the password regardless unless the reset the BIOS by using the resetting jumper. Refer to the motherboard's manual for further information on how to do this.
