The "loud beeps" are the BIOS telling you what's wrong. Check the manufacturer and/or manual to find the error code(s).

I have a dell inspiron 1525 and the dvd and cd drive wont work

Hi
First of all, check that the computer can seet he DVD drive in "My Computer" (By "see" i mean that there is an icon theres showing that it knows there is a DVD present.**

If there is, when you insert a disc, can you see the green ready light on the DVD?

If you have tried several DVD and CD,s and none work, there is a possible power issue with the drive
You can try and remove the screw that retains the drive into the laptop, pull out the drive and re-insert it gently but firmly, sometimes this wakes up the drive.

** if the computer cannot see the drive, please repost and I'll go through the proceedure to get it recognised

Aspire 3004, does not start up, on pressing start

This is not the answer you want to hear. Unfortunately for you, your daughter has ruined your laptop. You may still be able to salvage your data, assuming your hard drive is still good after you have turned it on and off a few dozen times to no avail.

Nearly everything is located on or solder connected to you motherboard in a laptop.

If you decide to replace the motherboard, all those external connections have to be re-soldered.

1) A liquid (coke) spill on a laptop shorts the motherboard.

2) Any shorts on a motherboard have to be traced using a multimeter and must be done by a qualified technician.

3) For what it is going to cost to repair your Acer laptop, you can buy a new Toshiba laptop at Best Buy or online.

I am sorry, but this is not the answer you were hoping for. The reality is, this is not something that you are going to be able to fix.

Hi, my problem on dell inspiron 1526 is this: SYSTEM MODULAR BAY cannot be indentified.... problem is that CD/dvd drive show signs of work(when i turn my computer on Green led blinks, motor starts to rotate...

If the drive functions in another system the the issue is either the motherboard contacts or the controller. Flash the BIOS to the most current version and reset the BIOS defaults. If the drive still doesn't detect, then a motherboard replacement is likely in order.

Acer One 1542 series.Power on but not boot.

since you reseated the memory, the last two things I would do is remove the hard drive and dvd drive.

If you remove those and you can't get video then the motherboard is bad.

Acer One 1542 series not boot

Hi,
Take out the battery and the mains power, turn the laptop over and remove the ram cover, look for the ram and take it out by pushing the metal lugs outwards so the memory pops up, it's now ready to remove, the ram (memory) looks like this >>>>>>
2906af6.jpg

Once the memory is out look very close in the memory bay for 2 brass triangles, they will be in the shape of a diamond, get a flat head screwdriver and short them 2 pins out, this will clear the CMOS, put the memory back in, turn the laptop over and plug in power & hit the on/off button.
When it comes it will say that bios settings are wrong so go into the bios and set the time and date, save the changes and exit the bios, the computer will restart and hopefully boot up with no more problems.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Power light on& status light on

The power red led indicates that your device is "power on" , but the status led still red and turn to green if the device ( video input )received video signal ( from DVD player, Laptop etc. ) .

Red light on power up. No image on monitor. Pc fans working.

On a computer mainboard there are usually a number of connecting pins right next to one another called RESET, POWER LED, HD LED etc.
The power led often leads to the green LED next your power button to show that the juice is available and on. The cable that leads to the red LED is usually the HD LED which shows that a disk drive is being accessed.
Since the red LED is active, one of your disks is probably being accessed and that's where the problem is. Either the disk is damaged, the cable is still not inserted properly or the bios is having problems identifying one of your disk drives.

1) Power the computer off. Take the power cable out. Make sure that you are grounded (have no static charge on your body). Take all of the cables between your mainboard and your disk drives off.
2) Plug in one of your disk drives, reconnect the power cable, switch the power on and watch the monitor. If all goes well you will see that the bios has recognized the disk drive and will simply display a message that the operating system for example isn't available or no harddisk drive is present (if you connected something other than a harddisk drive).
3) repeat this process with the other drives, powering the pc completely off each time and then adding a new disk drive.
4) once you've reached the point where the red LED drive is displayed but no message is available, you've found the culprit that is keeping your pc from booting properly. Hopefully the cable has just been stuck on improperly or the cable is damaged (Check it), rather than you having disk drive damage.

Good luck!

You can try reseating the memory and the hard drive if you can get to it, but it sure sounds as though the motherboard is shot.
You can take it to your local computer repair shop.
Good Luck.

Toshiba Satellite 1135-S125 front LED indicators gone weird

Hi The strange operation of those LED's is most probably an error mode indicator. If a laptop fails to power on corectly it will use those LED's, lighting in a specific pattern to signal the error. That's an example. In your case something was damaged in some way because the error code indicator is still acting like there is an error. You may try to reset the BIOS to factory defaults (small chances that this will work) and leave the laptop unpowered for about 1 day. If the problem is still there you will need to have it fixed in a service center. By comparing the LED lighting pattern with information from the Toshiba service catalogs they will be able to tell you what kind of error had happen for wich the LED's to light in this manner. Sorry for my bad english, I live in a non-english speaking country. Good luck and don't forget to rate any answer received from this site.
