Tip & How-To about Rheem Tankless water heater for 1-2 bathroom homes, outdoor, LP - Model RTG

Get hot water from your Rheem tankless during a code 76 error

This doesn't always work, but on the Rheem tankless Gas/Propane water heater, if you're experiencing a code 76 error; disconnect the remote control unit (either from the water heater or the remote) by lifting the wires for the remote connection. Typically you'll get a C1-C8 error code, followed by a code 76; if you're getting a straight code 76 and nothing else, this procedure probably won't work.
Code 76 is a total power supply failure on the printed circuit board (PCB) assembly, which is the communication/power supply for the remote control unit. But, if you're getting a supplemental code (C1-C8) this procedure will most likely supply you with hot water until the replacement PCB arrives.

Remote is flashing C8 and 76, alternating. I turn the unit off, then back on, and I get hot water for about 10 seconds, then it goes cold and the same error message occurs. Unit is Rheem Main Remote Control UMC 117

Before calling service technician, open following links for Rheem tankless resources including error codes and Rheem chat.
Disconnect wires from remote to see if system stabilizes. Unit will heat to default temperature without remote.

Error codes are considered start-point for troubleshooting.

We have enjoyed a Rheem Thermostat and a Paloma Eco Sense tankless gas water heater #RTG-74XN-2 for 2 and 1/2 years, but now there are error codes flashing and resetting the thermostat doesn't hold. Code flashing are CB 76 and C4 76. Any suggestions?

Before calling service technician, open following links for Rheem troubleshooting resources, including generic error codes and contact information for Rheem and recent manuals:

Error codes are start place for troubleshoot, and multiple error codes can indicate bad PC board.
Same error code on one machine can be different cause and solution than another machine.

Error 76 is usually communication problem with remote control.
Disconnect wires from machine, and clean terminals is a start point.
Wire between machine and remote might be bad, or remote control is bad, or PC board or wiring connections are bad.

The problem might be solved by having technician catch the machine up on yearly maintenance.

Manual for same-similar product shows maintenance and troubleshooting and a few error codes, but not 76:
For the most part, the manual recommends calling service technician instead of offering DIY details.

FLASHING CODE C-7 WILL WORK FOR A WHILE THEN STOPS

disconnect the remote and see if the unit works properly; could be lost comm. between the burner control module and the burner assembly.

If your getting error code 76; contact Rheem customer support at (800-432-8373) and notify them IF you are getting a code "76" error
