Top section of my side by side kitchen aid frodge stop cooling bottom is still cooling and freezer still working

send the model number?if the freezer is cold but in fridge the top is warm and the bottom is cold it sounds like you have a bad evaporator fan motor, all it does is cold starts in the freezer at the evaporator coil, and the evap fan blows the cold air into the fridge section, warm air rises so if the fan isn't working the cold air will stay down low and the warm air will stay up on top, open the freezer door,if you don't hear the fan blowing in the freezer i would have to say the evap fan motor is bad,if the fan is working one of the doors could have been left open and the air ducts froze up or you could have a damper in your model,it's just a door that opens and closes to let the air blow in but send the model number so whoever helps you can look up your fridge, usually the model number for a sxs is in the fridge section open the fridge door look up on the right hand wall up near the ceiling or in the middle of ceiling and there should be a tag with model and serial numbers just send the model number,

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. You have most likely found the problem being the evaporator fan is turning slowly. Most of the time if there is a voltage problem with and evaporator fan they just do not turn at all. I suspect that the fan bearings are dry and the armature is not turing full speed.

Sometimes you can lubricate the motor with a parrifin based oil and revive them. Most of the time on the white motors lubrication does not work as you can only lubricate one of 2 bearings due to the motor design.

Your evaporator fan motor is here: Detailed view

The Evvaporator fan motor voltage should be 120 VAC across the 2 fan motor wires.

Kenmore fridge. freezer top works, but bottom doesn't.

Either your fan has stopped working, or it is not defrosting. Take the back panel of the freezer off and see if the evaporator coil is iced over, if it is replace the deforst heater, and the deforst thermostat. If the compressor is running the fan if the freezer should be running. Also make sure both your fridge and freezer controls are centered. Putting the freezer on the coldest setting acutally shuts off airflow to the fridge.

Freezer works, but fridge is warm. Water had been draining from freezer into fridge, and freezing up in the bottom of fridge prior to this.

Sounds as if your evaporator fan located in the fridge part of the appliance is out. This fan is usually located by the temp control switch. If you open the fridge and listen you should hear the fan humming , if not, then replace the fan. Take the model and serial number to an appliance store and they should be able to get you the part. Good luck on your repairs.

Freezer is ok, but fridge is not cold enough

5 reasons for fridge and/or freezer getting warm: 1- the evaporator coils are icing up and won?t let air circulate. 2- the evaporator fan is not working to circulate air. 3- there is no refrigerant in the system. 4- no power to fridge or compressor. 5- the condenser coils have no air circulation check under the fridge behind the vent. if it is too dusty or the fan isn?t working, it is not getting enough airflow to cool down. replace fan and/or vacuum out the dust. if there is no power to the fridge, the light will be off. if the compressor is not running, there is a defrost timer that cuts the power temporarily to the compressor to melt ice on the coils. it?s located under the fridge behind the bottom vent. If the timer is off and the compressor is not going, the compressor or the main board is bad and needs replacing. there is also a temperature sensor on the evaporator coils that tells the defrost coil to turn on and when to turn off. if the defrost timer is on but the coil is not heating up, replace the sensor. if it still won?t heat up, it?s the timer or the coil. the easiest way to tell if there is no refrigerant- the freezer wall is warm and the compressor is loud. if there is no refrigerant, it may be more cost effective to replace the fridge. if you feel no air coming from the freezer vent, the fan needs replacing. If you feel air moving in the freezer but not the fridge, the channel from freezer to fridge is blocked.

Kenmore refrigerator will not cool. Freezer works

If you feel air moving in the freezer but not the fridge, the channel from freezer to fridge is blocked. if the freezer has air and the rear freezer wall has frost on it, the evaporator coils are iced up and need defrosting. causes: 1. low refrigerant 2. no fan 3. too much humid air in fridge/freezer due to door open or bad door seals 4. the condensate drain tube is clogged if the seal around the door is ripped or not completely sealing, or there is condensation at the bottom or the walls of the fridge, replace the seal(s). no air, no fan. Replace if the refrigerant is low, it just needs a top off. but you need to be certified by the epa to move refrigerant, so get a professional. defrost solutions: unplug the fridge. remove the wall of the freezer that is frosted/icing up. use a hair dryer to melt the ice. do not get too close. you will see a drain under the evaporator coil. make sure it is not blocked. the water should run freely to a condensate pan under the fridge that evaporates the condensation with the hot line from the compressor. once the coil is free of ice, frost, and water, replace the panel and repair any of the problems that caused the icing up. plug the fridge in and turn it on. If it frosts up within a week, there is still an issue that not been taken care of.

Sears Kenmore bottom freezer/refrig #68142model

just called in a sears technician 150 dollar bill that was an easy fix. he says my bottom freezer kenmore fridge with warm fridge problem was due to the pathway being blocked by ice and garbage which is common with these fridges. he took off cover from the fridge bottom and poured boiling water down to the freezer. try that before you replace any parts or call in a tech. next time im getting a top freezer because the blower is on the top not in the middle with the bottom freezers and thus more problem prone.

I have a cold freezer/warm fridge problem

Hi, Yes, They are the same thing. Can you hear the fan motor running in the freezer? If not it probably needs replaced. Some units shut the fan off by a door switch. If its not running when the door is closed, it could be the door switch. If the fan is ok, make sure the thermostat is set right. Sometimes something in the frige gets bumped against it and it will get moved. NOTE: Allow aprox 12-24 hours for changes in thermostat settings to take full effect. If this all checks out ok I would suspect the defrost timer. Remove everything and place in coolers or another refrigerator. Unplug the refrigerator. With doors open let it sit for aprox 6 hrs. A fan blowing into the freezer section will help. Plug back in and see if it works good again. If it works good for a couple of days and problem returns, Replace the defrost timer. Hope this helps. kstfas

This unit uses the cold air from the freezer to cool the fridge, you will find that the air duct has frozen up, completly defrost overnight with the doors open, this should rectify fault. Regards Advisor

GE Spacemaker JVM1339ww002 - looking for photo of plugs in control board plugs for reassembly or a wiring diagram? Disassembled without noting locations and now start & clear buttons do not work. I have a very old model GE spacemaker XL microwave, model# JVM1339ww002. I repaired the #1 key by cleaning contacts and reinserting the ribbon connector to the control panel. However, I did not photograph the connections. Some plugs have only 1 location where they fit. However, 2 pairs of plugs are the same size and I do not know the correct place to reinsert them. I took a guess & reassembled the microwave and it worked except for the start/clear buttons. If you press a number 2 shortcut for example, it will cook 2 minutes and the food is heated. However, start and clear do not work at all. These buttons DID work before I repaired the numbers. I contacted GE and they gave me a hard time about providing the wiring diagram which was removed or not inside my microwave. I am not sure if I reassembled the plugs wrong OR if I broke something else when I was repairing the numbers. Can anyone help me with the right locations for the 2 pairs of plugs listed below? And/Or tell me if it sounds like start & clear are a new problem or will be resolved by getting the plugs correct? These are the 2 sets of plugs that can be inserted in either location: 1) a pair of matching white plugs that snap in place along the bottom (1 has white wires only and the other has 1 white/1 black wire) 2) a pair of red and white plugs of equal size in the middle of the board. They are similar (but smaller) to plugs in wall outlet with 2 prongs. Similar to a wall outlet, you can rotate the plug 180 degrees and they still fit. In other words besides asking which plug is upper or lower, do I need to worry if the plug is upside down or this doesn't matter? The red plug has black wires, while the white plug has blue and white wires.
