Re: HP PSC 950

When I worked at staples. I sold theses Units and that actually was a common problem. We had a number of returns of that unit with that exact problem. What happens is that a small plastic piece inside breaks off and the gears no longer work properly. The firmware on the machine then thinks the cartridges are not aligned. If the unit is out of warranty then I would suggest buying a new printer. HP is really good when it comes to ink yield. and it is usually a decent product. However like any products off an assembly line, there are lemons. There made to break down eventually anyway, Company's wouldn't make money if they lasted forever.

Says that we have a paper jam not true Carriage moves to left side and stays there ink leaking out on right side

Hi there maximum time we found it is a the head problem. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. For resolve the problem please follow these.
Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over. Some how if its not come then Unplug the printer & Manually slide the carriage. Now Remove the ink cartridges from the print head & Use wet warm cotton swab or use alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head. Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab. After finished it make the head dry then fix it back. Now Try to print something now If that does not work then follow the next step.
Remove the printer data cable & restart the PC & printer. Then fit back the data cable & turn on the printer. Hope that's start working , if no luck then Uninstall the printer driver & restart the PC & Printer both again. Now install the driver of the printer and connect it with PC ,Turn on printer & go for a test print from the printer preference. Thanks & waiting for your reply.

My printer started making loud clanking noises immediately before printing the document. The document prints fine, but that loud noise sounds like a machine gun. After manually moving the carridge to the...
You helped me CLEAN the HP PSC 1610
it had MASIVE amounts of waisted ink
in the area that it WANTS to waste ink
to keep the cartridges FLOWING...
It seems that HP (as with most all manufacturers)
opened the mid section of the printer
moved the ink holder module to the far left
pushed the cleaning tray
(it moves to you and away from you)
away towards the rear of the machine
used masive amounts of isopropyl alcohol
and an old toothbrush
to clean most of the gunk ink buld-up
(started with q-tips but it was not enough)
After cleaning ... the machine worked again...
that noise was still there
after carefull inspection
I saw the problem
there was a hairline crack in a small plastic part
above a rotating gear
when the carriage came to the right
it was suposed to move that part
off or away from the gear
but because it was cracked
it did not move properly
crazy glue or super glue
and shim to hold in place while drying
(maby heat with a light bulb while drying)

The printer won't print color only black and white

Sounds like the print head on the color side is ether plugged on its plunger or the print head failed totally the real way to do any testing is get yourself a printer cleaning kit and follow the direction on that if that does not shore it up replace the plunger and or printhead around $45-50 bucks respectivly.

My HP psc 2210xi all-in-one printer makes loud noise & prints bad

It requires service as due to dust and dirt the gears are getting stuck, however if you can do it all it requires is a good cleaning and use machine lubricant to oil the iron rod on which the head moves.

Does not print red, print heads do not return to left parked area

The printhead not moving to the left I think I can solve. Open the top cover, the yellow light on the paper feed button wil come on solid, press and HOLD this button until you hear the print head assembly make some noises (about 10 to 20 seconds) then release the button and then the printheads will move and park on the left so you can remove the printhesd(s)
