Question about Canon PowerShot A530 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Lens problems I am deployed and I sent my camera to my wife and she has managed to brake it, I was hoping to get some help on this problem: When off, the camera lens is in the position as if it were being used. When turning the Canon Camera Powershot A530 on, the Canon logo screen comes on as it should. Following the blue logo screen is 2-3 rapid beeps made by the camera and a black screen is shown with the words, "Lens error, restart camera". Immediately after showing this screen for five seconds, the camera automatically turns itself off. Please assist me in any way you can, thank you. V/R, soldier555

Re: Lens problems

Try opening your camera, check the lens gear if its teeth are complete. If so, check if something stucks on it. Its much better to bring your camera to an authorized service center to re timing your lens track... ^_^

Dropped camera on lens and now it wont open properly. says "lens error"

Unfortunately the lens has been damaged in the fall seizing up the motor or gears, the repairs would exceed the cost of a new digital camera.

L18 lens error

From Nikon site...

Why does my camera show "lens error" on the screen?

Having a "Lens error" message display on the camera's LCD display indicates a problem with the camera lens mechanism. This situation generally requires that the camera be sent to a Nikon Service Department for repair. Before doing this however, be sure to check these situations below:

One possible reason for this error is if the camera is switched on and the lens unit is prevented from extending. The camera will struggle for a second to extend the lens, then report the problem. Inspect the lens for any obvious obstruction, then turn the camera off, then on again. Usually, simply switching the camera Off then On again is enough to correct this problem.
Remove and recharge the battery. Retest.

If this does not help, then we regret the camera must be sent to our Nikon Service department as there are no user serviceable parts on Nikon Coolpix cameras.

Hope helps (remember to rate and commet this answer).

Lens won't deploy

The problem you are describing is a problem with the sensor behind the lens cover door. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced.

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product. The cost is $83 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

No image at all. Almost like a cover is on the lens!

Hi, I am the individual (RDAVINCI) who posted this problem initially and thought that since others have experienced the same problem, it would be wise to provide an update.

I had hoped to find a resolution to the problem and sent my camera to Canon hoping that it was something that could be resolved easily. Unfortunately not and with the labour and parts, it was going to cost me in excess of £100 for a repair. It didn't seem financially prudent and I decided to leave my camera with them rather than pay for the return cost too with no benefit. So no happy ending, sorry folks.

I've now got a Sony H5 which is superb and so far so good.

Good luck to all of you who are experiencing the same problem and hope you manage to find that elusive remedy that may also be cost effective.

Lens error, restart camera

the beeping sounds means that your camera lens is stuck. contact the manufacturer (canon), for a possible solution...or they can even send u a new one. My friend dropped her SD630 and had the same problem...she contacted canon, and sent in her camera to be fixed, but it wasn't fixable, so canon sent her a brand new camera. hope this helps.

Zoom Lens Deployment

Hi Spinks... your problem seems uncommon... i have been using the same model for around 2 yrs and never caused such problem.
Probably some problem in the machinism... better to consult a service engg. if still under warranty.

Focus on zoom

it is not the ccd problem .
the lens adjustment and ccd have no relation.actually when optical unit was replaced ,it is not fixed properly and due to internal lens would find blurry images on zooming.
it must be re-adjusted.

Casio exilim ex-z55 lens gear problem

You may be lucky like me .My wife turned on the Casio Lens down and got same problem as you.
I dismantled the front face of camera to gain access to the lens system and found that one of the plastic sprockets had its teeth slightly twisted!I managed to straightened these carefully with a knife and now Casio good as new....zoom also working perfectly.
This is an easy fix and from what I hear people are giving up on an out of warranty camera, when in fact they maybe abke to easily fix it themselves.
I dont mind helping anyone email is

Repair costing close to half the price of new camera is uneconomical. And unfortunately if it is the shutter ( which seems questionable and sounds like the lens unit has sand inside and canon want to replace it ) you will not be able to do this yourself. Buy a new camera.
