Question about Whirlpool GGQ8831L Gas Dryer

1 Answer

The burner in the dryer will not stay on.

The dryer will operate for only a few moments, but then the burner will turn off immediately afterwards. I do not understand what part needs to be replaced.

Re: The burner in the dryer will not stay on.

Most common cause is poor airflow. Make sure your ductwork is clear, and that you have good strong airflow at the exhaust point outside.
If that doesn't help, it may be the gas coils that need replaced....not a terribly expensive part, you can usually get the pair of coils together.

Dryer goes on, and will start burner but will not reach operating temp. Shuts burner off almost immediately. Will start burner again in cycle but then shuts off before it reaches operating temp.

What brand? You could have a clogged vent, or a stretched out belt, allowing too much heat inside the drum, triggering a safety switch.

Dryer not drying

First thing to check is the vent. Make sure you have sufficient air flow to the outside. If you are not sure if you have the proper rate of flow, disconnect the vent from the dryer, turn dryer on and see if burner stays on longer. Do this with a couple of damp, spun-dry towels inside the drum. If the burner short cycles again, you need to replace the coils on top of the burner assembly. These are the two black round coils.

Whirpool dryer 6 year old heat only few minutes and then burner turn off by itself but dryer keep runing without heat. this is a gas dryer. can u help me which part i need to change? thanks

This is most likely to be the 2 coils on the gas valve. When the coils weaken over a period of time they tend to allow the gas come on for a few moments and then the gas valve shut ending the flame.
The part number is 5303931775 and by clicking the part number it will take you to where you can find the set.
Let me know if I can help if you run into more problems and I will help get your dryer going, Thanks Sea Breeze

Dryer won't stay running. It will start, run 10-15 seconds, then shut off. I can restart it immediately but get the same results.

i would check the door switch. it may be worn just enough that the vibration of the dryer opens the circuit for just a moment. then check for other loose connections. the fact that you can restart immediately usually indicates a momentary break in the circuit. a temperature switch usually takes a short time to reset. while it's still running, try rattling various switches or smack the door to see if it shuts off. (just a couple of simple ideas to start with).
good luck....jay

Try to turn on but it wont stay on

If that dryer has a 4 wire start switch which simply twists a quarter turn to get off then replace it.
