Battery won't hold a charge and AC adapter is not recognized to run computer

  • Anonymous Jan 15, 2010

I did switch AC Adapters (had 2 that didn't work) by buying a new one. This does give me power but now I find the dc jack must be loose, because the system will shut down immediately if moved suddenly.

As per the description it seems the problem with adapter. Try using another adapter and keep the laptop for charging for few hours and check the battery. If this doesnt solve the issue please mail back.

Battery/Ac adapter issues for Sony VAIO Model

So I gather the laptop does not run when the battery is in and the AC adapter is not connected? Dell m5110 laptop won't charge new battery and ac adapter is not recognized in bios

Try another AC cord/charger with the EXACT same specs as original. Is the battery a genuine Dell battery, if not return it? Some aftermarket laptop batteries don't play well with your computer, the pin-out connections aren't correct and MAY be a fire hazard.

Hp 8440p battery won't hold a charge

Since you have replaced the battery and the ac adapter then there's a problem with your computer's motherboard. Get it serviced by a technician if he says that you need to replace the motherboard then you better buy a new laptop. Motherboards are expensive.

Hi, it seem as if your battery is faulty you should try another battery to see if the computer will recognize when it is charging, you can also try your battery in another compaq presario computer to see if it will have the same problem.

My Dell D 600 will not charge the battery and a message appears at start up that says Ac adapter not recognized What do I need to do to get my computer to charge the battery

If the AC adapter is not recognized by the system, the battery charger circuit is disabled. Things you can check:
  1. In the barrel of the connection to the computer, the small wire in the center is the sensing wire. If bent or broken, then the adapter will need to be replaced.
  2. If the pin is not bent or broken, try a different AC adapter (Any D-Series Dell adapter will work) IF that adapter works, replace the AC adapter.
  3. If a known good/new adapter doesn't resolve, then a motherboard needs replacement.

I had the battery not recognized on boot up. then

the Dell AC adapter has a sensing pin so the bios can determine the wattage of the adapter. If the system cannot ID the adapter, the battery charger circuit is disabled. You'll need a functional DELL ac adapter to get the battery to charge

IBM T30 - power issues

You might try cleaning the battery compartment. Makeing sure there are no damaged pins. Often times even a single messed up pin will cause this. Also this is a very good indication of adaptor failure. If you haven't allready I suggest getting another ac adapter specific to you machine. Even a substitute will casue the same issue you are now experianceing.
