Question about Televison & Video

Pioneer SD-P50A2 TV

My converance will go crazy sometimes when I first turn my TV on. When I try to adjust it (converance menu)I have three different color "t"s and part of the "t" goes down hill, the two middle on let and right are perfect. Sometimes it will fix it self. The other night it fixed itself and then it did it again after the set had been on for a few hours. What gives? Can I fix this, if not how much am I looking at.

Try soldering your convergence amplifier ICs. Sounds like it has a bad solder conection on the ICs. Check them good with a magnifying glass. Hope this helps you out. Let me know.

Not all universal remotes control all functions of a particular device. A different universal remote might work as the code libraries differ from one to another.

I have a Pioneer PDP-R05FE 43'' TV. When I connect my PS3 to show Blue Ray films I get a flicker in the picture. It is connected using a good quality HDMI cable. There is no flicker when playing SD films...

go into your dispay menu and adjust the response 50-60hrz or if your tv is capped at 1080i then drop the ps3 to 720p and that will smooth it out alittle too as the interlaced picture is alittle choppy apposed to progressive picures and finally sometimes they just do it no rhyme or reason to it so dont go crazy about this ok :)

We can cet the blue and green adjusted but not the red. It like watching tv in 3D

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

I HAVE A PIONEER 50' TV AND THE TV REPAIR MAN WORKED ON THE COLOR CONVERGENCE AND NOW HE SAYS THAT I HAVE TO FINE TUNE IT? the main problem was the blue line.

YOU need to have the original Pioneer remote to do this--I do not understand if someone fixed and you had the remote why he did not adjust it?

With the Pioneer remote you go into the customer menu and adjust convergence--most also have a TECH menu for this but you still need the remote and a code to get into this--REMOTES FOR THESE SETS ARE HARD TO FIND AND EXPENSIVE.

Let me know if you have questions--I am here to help.

If this helped you, rate this solution as I do this here for FREE.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

Sounds like you lost the converigence. Have you tried to realign the convergence through the user menu? Try that first and see what happens.

Color problem

Did you try alignment of color convergence in setting up. Try this
1 Press MENU
2 Select SET UP
3 Select CONVERGENCE
4 Select screen mode ZOOM this accesses the center convergence adjustment.Press set/enter
5 Use arrow keys to aline the red cross to the white cross.Press set/enter
6 Use arrow keys to alingn the blue line in the same manner. Once adjustment is complete press MENU to turn the menu off.
I hope this helps if you cant move the red or blue lines you face the same problem I face. I still havent gotton any solutions to my post about being unable to adjust the red line. You could also call Pioneer's help line 800-421-1404.
