Make sure u put the game on a game boy, gameboy color, gameboy advance, or gameboy advance SP.. blow inside the game, there is usually dust there which wont allow the game to start.

This is actually a glitch in the game. It reads it as resetting the game data, so will reset your game. To fix this problem.... I am not sure how. So ask somebody at a Rogers or Futureshop etc to help you.
No, the only way to stop this problem is to change the battery because it is dying or dead; this is causing the memory erases. What you need to do is take the cartridge and unscrew it and change the battery.
