3am is the freeview box update time it will do this every day at 3am the loud click you hear you should not hear it but it may be the update switch that turns the tv out of standby for the freeview to be updated its a different switch that turn this on and may be sticking.
Just been on Philips Forum and there is a possible very simple solution. Press and hold the MENU button ON THE TV for about 20 secs. This should factory reset TV and allow storage/retrieval of channels to the '8k' store. See this page for more detail:http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1366-26pfl5522d-05. Now I have to ring my Dad who has exactly this problem!
i have had this same problem with many of my customers of late...have not found and hard and fast solution however try retuning the tv or upgrading the firmware. I think you may have to contact LG regarding a firmware upgrade as this tv has no network connections or usb ports. i had to replace a set top box for a newer model for this same reason.
You will have 2 UHF plugs on your set top box.. One for input (aerial) and 1 for output (TV). Connect your main aerial to set top box UHF input and connect an Output UHF lead from set top box to TV. Next switch on set top box and retune tv on a spare channel until you get set top box channels (good idea to switch on menu on set top box so you know you are tuned into set top signal )
There are a few problems turning up as a result of the update. Do a factory settings on the box if it has the option to do so. Be aware of the actual transmitter you are on and the channels/frequencies it uses so when tuning you know whether its finding channels at the bottom, middle or top of the band. Sometimes you may need to unplug the aerial upto or after a particular channel to stop the box tuning unwanted transmitters. If you are picking more than 1 transmitter up you will often get extra channels in wrong locations
You may lose some channels when you retune the TV as the channels have been rearranged. To locate them look at the EPG although you may still find that some channels are no longer available on FREEVIEW. See the following link for additional information http://www.freeview.co.uk/_retuneinfo/ If the above process does not work then check the link above for additional information and also visit the accompanying site links below to find more information for your model of TV / FREEVIEW box. last time i saw this problem...tried doing a firmware upgrade to update software...did not work....replacing power supply fixed problem...open uinit up...get p/n from power supply board...try ordering board from andrews electronics in california or send board to PTS electronics for repair/board swap...Be careful...power supply can give you a shock even after its been off for awhile...you can discharge large caps by bridging a 10k ohm resistor across them making sure not to touch anything..JOE ACE
