Chalky dishes in dishwasher

I have a chalk like film on my dishes from the dishwasher. I have used a dishwasher cleaner for the inside of the dishwasher. The heating coil seems to have the same chalky film. The dishwasher is less than two years old.

How do you adjust the salt level?  I got JetDry, which helped but didn't eliminate the white residue.  Also, dishes with food/liquids that would normally dissolve in hot water aren't getting completely clean.  Is the water pressure low or is it something else?

I have the same problem - a disgusting film over all my dishes. I have "normal" city water - I use hot water and Jet Dry. I have used lemonade Kool-Aid and vinegar to clean it and nothing works. I have the Maytag MDB-8 and hate it. Need solutions! Thanks.

The problem is not the dishwasher but the water that actually is going into it. the white, powder substance is because of hard water. there is a affordable product out there called the dishwasher filtration system. it will filter the water going into your dishwasher and solve the problem once and for all!!! it is affordable and easy to install. www.dishwasherfilter.com

It seems you are in a 'hard water area'. Adjust the salt level accordingly, and use a rinse aid.

There is a product on the market called Dishwasher Magic that should help with this problem. It is a citric acid cleaner that will remove most any film from you dishwasher from hard water stains to food stains. Another similar product is called Glisten. Make sure you follow the directions on the bottle. Hope that helps.

Getting a heavy chalky film on my dishes after cycle. Already filled with Jet Dry.

This could be do to the banning of phosphates in dishwasher soap in some states. Just started using the phosphate free soap and there is a chalky substance on my dishes. This did not happen when I used the soap with the phosphates in.

Are you in a location with "hard" water, meaning that the water has alot of minerals in it like calcium? If so, you may may need to get the water treated with a water softener system, either at the dishwasher or for the whole house.
