My sport trac is sluggish. I replaced the fuel filter and air filter with no improvement. It seems to get worse are the truck gets hotter. and there is a "pennies in a folgers can" sound.
it is a 2002 explorer sport trac with the 4.0 liter v6. it has the manual trans with 4wd. I have read alot about people having issues with the CC and i am going to do surgery on the thing today.
with the timing...i do not have a timing light. It seems to idle fine. When i increase the throttle it bogs down. It seems to get worse at the truck gets hotter. So my guess is a clogged CC. It gets hot the metal expands and closes up what ever passage is left.

Sounds like your timing might be off. Check the timing with timing light. If it's way off you might have a bigger job on your hands. More info on the vehicle would be needed for diagnoses though. Including year/make/model/engine size.Sounds like your timing might be off. Check the timing with timing light. If it's way off you might have a bigger job on your hands. One possible reason is a clogged fuel filter. You can check the fuel filter by blowing air through the "in" end. If no or little air is coming through, then you should replace the filter.
does it smell worse after you fill the tank? if so check the fill tube that goes to the tank for cracks or splits. if it smells the same all the time check for loose fitting at the fuel filter that is under the driver's side of the truck.
