dell dimension monitor output broke away from motherboard and now i get no output to monitor to "wake it up", nevermind being able to see anything on it. As soon as i unplug the monitor cable from the pin connector on the computer, i get the display that reads lost signal or no connection.
Dell Dimension 8300 Series P4 478 Socket.
The monitors VGA output connects to a video cable. The other end of the cable pluges onto the motherboards VGA output. On the cable (either end) there are 2 screw tightners which allow you to tighten the cable connectors to each VGA output. If the cable connector is broken than you need a new cable. If the monitor has a solid cable connection to the monitor & that end is broken than you need another monitor. If the VGA on the motherboard broke you can add an AGP video card to the motherboard & re connect everything. Here is a link for an AGP video card. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=321119

Depending on how much it has broke away, you may be able to resolder it back on, or find someone who can. Other than that it will be a new board, I suspect.
It seems at least a few connections are OK, so probably worth a try, before scrapping it.

I tried to connect an internal card reader to my PC. Un plugged the 9pin connector to the USB sockets on the front of the machine and connected the reader. Boot very slow and now none of the USB ports on the rear of the machine work. Is this the correct socket to use, or should I have a different one? Regards Robby
