Question about ViewSonic VX2000 (Silver, Black) Monitor

1 Answer

VX2000 I have a ViewSonic VX2000 that has started to turn itself off and then back on again randomly. The Power On light (green and amber) also turns off, so I know it is not a signal problem. Perhaps Power Supply ? any advice

Thanks, I can buy an external AC power Power Adapter from ViewSonic for this monitor for about $75.

    I gues I am lucky it's external !

Could it be a problem internally? I have easy access to all interanl components as well as a screw driver and big hammer.

there is always a 50/50 chance it could be internal but the best way to troubleshoot is always to try the most logical and least expensive remedy first.

However if it were me and I spent 75.00 for a new power supply and it didin't work I would start pricing a new lcd monitor because the average monitor costs 200.00 to 277.00 depending on size.

I would hate to spend another 75.00 or 100 dollars for repair and could have purchased a new mointor with all new components plus warranty for the same amount of money. www.newegg.com has some good pricing on lcd monitors.

This is most likely a problem of bad electrolytic capacitors. New capacitors must be soldered in. Visit http://badcaps.net/ for more information. Before doing any of that though, check if it is still under warranty. Here is viewsonic's warranty information. http://www.viewsonic.com/support/warranty.htm

No display (black) - power light is amber color

The video signal is not reaching your monitor, check the pins on the connector from the monitor to the computer, then check the video card:

Turn off your computer, unplg the power, and then take out the video card. Wait 5 minutes and then put the card back into the computer and turn it on. For onboard video; turn off the computer, unplug the power, then hold down the power button on the front for 5-10 seconds, then plug back in and turn on.

Make sure the video card is snug in the AGP/PCI slot. If this is built-in video, try borrowing a video card from another computer and install it in this one. If the borrowed card works, then replace you card. If video is built in, then you can disble the onboard video and use the new card without having to replace your motherboard.
