I have a GE Refrigerator Model # GDS20SBSSS or GDS20SBSASS the first is off the back of the unit and the second is from inside the unit. My issue is this clicking noise coming from the Motherboard behind a metal plate. it started out coming on for a short while (15mins) and now is clicking non-stop. I think from what I have read on this website that I need to replace my motherboard but can't seem to find a reliable source to get a part#. Can anyone confirm my suspicion and tell me what part # I need? Thank you

Thanks Gilsh. I ended up going to a local parts and repair place and I bought a new Mother board and fan. This did the trick and I'm up and running quietly again. In hind sight I would buy the fan first and if that didn't fix I would invest in the motherboard also. The reason I bought both and changed both at the same time is because this was recommended by the parts place.

Before going much further I would check all the fans, the Condenser and be sure it is clean. The freezer and freezer fans need to be checked as well. This if it is the trouble is much more cost efficient then replacing the parts and then doing this.
Good Luck,

GE refrigerator constant irregular beeping

It looked like your model does NOT have an external ice/water control panel which has caused beeping problems on some models.
For your model I would try the following....
Door Alarm
The main cause of a beeping GE unit is an open refrigerator door. Some models are equipped with an internal door alarm, which trips when the door remains open for 3 minutes or longer.
One way to check this .... put your smartphone in the refrigerator on video mode and close the door. The light should go off with the door shut. If the video shows that the light stayed on when the door was closed ... then it reinforces that something is wrong with the switch/alarm. Repeat video for the freezer.
Door Seal
If beeping persists after the freezer or refrigerator door is closed, the door seals may be blocked or so dirty that the internal door alarm is tripped. The seals can be cleaned with a soft cloth and warm, soapy water. Also, an item inside the refrigerator may be preventing the door from fully closing.
Cooling System
Reactivating the refrigerator's cooling system includes a beeping noise. When the refrigerator is off, the "Off/Off" light appears on the door display. When the "Adjust Freezer" and "Energy Saver" buttons are held down for approximately 3 seconds at the same time the beep sounds and the "Off/Off" indicator disappears. Hold the "Ice Off" and "Freezer" buttons to activate the cooling system inside of the fresh food compartment. A beep signals the system is activated. The beeping should stop after the cooling system turns on. If it fails to stop, try unplugging the power cord to reset the connection.
Power
The GE's internal door alarm can get stuck. Try unplugging the refrigerator for about 10 seconds and then plug it back in. If the beeping continues, the internal door alarm might be broken or defective. Contact the manufacturer or a technician for further assistance. One way to check this .... put your smartphone in the refrigerator on video and close the door. The light should go off with the door shut. If the video shows that the light stayed on when the door was closed ... then it reinforces that something is wrong with the switch/alarm.

Good luck on your troubleshooting!

Lights on inside but keypad and refridgeration not working

Hi,
According to your description, you will need to locate and replace the main control board on your unit, if you roll out the unit from the wall, as you are looking at the back (from the back) your will see a metal panel bottom middle on the right side. Inside this panel is your main control board, The factory part number is WR55X10942. Also please verify model number as you are missing a run letter should be A-D after the P in the number you supplied above. Although is board is the same in all models.
This should fix the issue you have and get you back running again.
God Luck

The main board on the back of the unit has gone bad or in lockout. Try unplugging unit for about 30 seconds. Then plug it back in. If it doesn't start the board is bad. wr55x10942 at about 169.00. Hope this helps. Very common GE problem

I am replacing a defective GE refrigerator main board (WR55X10416) in my GDS20SBSASS GE fridge with the newer WR5510942 main board. I have read elsewhere that a wire on this board may need to be cut,...

You should have included instructions that came with this board and the serial# is what dictates if a wire is cut or not on the main board. there also might be a wire on the harness that plugs into the wall that needs to be cut although I have yet to find one.

The provided link has pics of the instructions. just check your serial # to verify and follow the directions

Unit not running and back freezer panel very hot

Sounds like the sensor for the auto-defrost is not working.
Easily replaced.

You will need to find a local appliance parts shop, take the model number along.
Explain the problem. By gettign the part first you can figure out what you are looking for inside.

Usually it is a simple unplug and plug in operation.

You will have to open the unit. Only takes a screwdriver.
