Cover Your Keyboard

Keep liquids away from laptops at all times. That rule often gets broken, of course, and accidents happen. Should that accident end up on your laptop's keyboard, however, you could end up with more than just a mess: Liquids that seep through your notebook's keys can fry its components. Protect your notebook from spills with a custom-built, plastic keyboard cover from ProtecT Laptop Covers..

Hi. I accidentally spilled coffee on my Asus EEE PC 1000H Laptop. Is it true that its keyboard is waterproof? If so/not, what should I do to avoid damaging it permanently? I've been using it for 2 hours...

When this happens, you should fully disassemble the netbook & thoroughly inspect its inside. Look for any traces of liquid on the circuit boards & on other components. On circuit boards, liquid damage appears in the form of whitish traces. These needs to be wiped off. This can be done using a tooth brush moistened with few drops of hand sanitizer liquid.
Check all internal connectors & make sure that no liquid seeped into them. Dry them if needed.
When you are done, re-assemble back the netbook.
If the liquid fell on the keyboard & you found out that the keyboard is no longer working, then you will have to replace the keyboard.

Monitor's display is shifted up and right so that there is just black space to the left and all along the bottom whereby cutting off the display. cannot see bottom menu bar.

One of the buttons on the front of you monitor (bottom right hand corner of the bezel) is a menu button. Press that then using the the arrows up and down buttons go the the horizontal and vertical positioning option. Once chosen move the display as desired.

You could also press the Auto (config) button, that may do the same for you.

Spilled Liquid (milk) on IBM T42 Thinkpad's touch cursor and controls. Controls now don't work. The cursor works but the right and left click don't. Any ideas how to solve? I took it apart and didn't see...

Hi Jim,

Not sure I can tell you anything you don't already know or want to hear but the first thing I would do is flip the laptop over so any moisture from the spill will seep out of the keyboard etc... The problem being that if the laptop was powered up when the spill occurred, there is no way of knowing where that spill ended up or more importantly...what damage it may have caused... By flipping it upside down.. any residual fluid may drain out and you may get lucky and everything come back to life but the downside is that the fluid could conceivably caused a short someplace on the circuitry beneath the keyboard ... ( hopefully that is not the case) but there is always that possibility... If the only thing that is not working is the right and left command buttons... then you may be able to bypass them with an external mouse... With the power shut off to the laptop... try cleaning that area with alcohol and let air dry for a while... you may have residue beneath the two keys that are causing them to stick or always be on /off so pressing them has no effect... Not sure any of this will help you but it may give you some ideas of what to try.. Good Luck...

Acer Aspire 5610 - one key does not work

Laptop keyboard are semi-sealed circuit boards. This means that liquid can get into the contacts and can not be cleaned. Depending on how much liquid was spilled on the keyboard chances are that the liquid has seeped around the edges of the keyboard and down onto the mainboard of the laptop. My first suggestion would be to keep the laptop turned off until you can remove the keyboard and check for liquid damage to the mainboard. If there is no damage to the mainboard I would suggest buying a new keyboard before turning the computer back on as any shorts caused by the liquid damage on the keyboard can cause damage to the keyboard controller circuit on the mainboard.
