If playing a game on disc, clean the disc off and ensure disc is inserted properly.

To fix this:

Under game settings make sure PS/PS2 up scaler is off.
Well sorry to tell you this but the 120 gig ps3 does not have any backwards capabilities whatsoever. There is no downloads to make ps2 games work. Either the sales person bold faced lied to you, or they had no clue what they were selling. Sony only came out with 2 systems that have backwards capabilities, the 60 and 80 gig systems, although they are limited and the 80 requires a download. Sorry for the headache, if I were you I would give that sales person a good piece of my mind.
that is indeed possible. i am actually the creator of that exact software. but 1 it is illegal and can not be distributed and 2 even if it were legal it wouldnt come cheap. and its ps2 to xbox vice versa and 360 - ps3 vice versa. ps2 cant do higher graphics games.
I would say the ps3... you can mod and chip it if you need to but it is region free.. no need to.. you can download linux ect onto it and rip dvds and blu ray to your hard drive... and a hard drive upgrade is a simple new hd I have a 250gb in my ps3! No need for a computer lol
