Device ownership code is part of a stupid contraption called WiFi Protected Setup (WPS), which was meant to simplify connection to wireless access points, but doesn't simplify anything in my opinion...
If the modem has been set up by your provider, then they should supply you with that number. It may be printed on a sticker on the modem itself.
Alternatively you may try finding in your laptop WiFi settings an option to disable this WPS functionality and connect in a "normal" way. It's hard to give a solid recipe, as there are lots of different WiFi software packages out there - every manufacturer seems to have an ambition to come up with their own, whereas Windows since XP Service Pack 2 onwards can use WiFi natively, without any 3rd party add-ons.
i'm trying to set up a new router for my wireless connection on an hp. in the area "device ownership password" i tried to enter the 10 digit number from the router but i received a message that says "check sum validation failed for pin entered". i cannot complete the set up because i cannot get past this point. please help!
Hello,
The device ownership password will be printed at the base of the router. If u dont find the password then type the last four digits of the IMEI number printed at the base of the router.
Hope this helped.
Device ownership password will be located at the bottom of the router. when you autoconfigure security for your wireless router the router uses the device ownership code as the password
This Device Ownership password is actually reffering to the WPS PIN number of your router which is usually on the sticker on the device. If you can't see it anywhere on the device, scan for wireless networks and connect to your network.
Once it will ask for the device Ownership password again, just click on the phrase that says " I want to enter a network key or passphrase instead" or " I don't want to configure, I just want to connect" ( this is applicable with vista ). If you have an XP computer and your using the wireless utility of your computer, disable that utility and use the Windows Zero Configuration.
