Vizio LCD 37 Inch Turns Off Randomly

I have a 2006 Vizio 37 inch LCD that has started to turn itself off randomly.

Sometimes its within a few seconds of me turning it on, other times its hours into the TV being on. Sometimes it turns off once and then is fine and other times it will turn itself off several times in a row.

I called Vizio and, of course, my warranty has expired. I reset the TV per their instructions and have changed power sources, but am still having the problem.

Anyone have any solutions for this? Thanks, in advance, for any help you can provide!

I'm having the same problem - TV randomly turns off and stays off after a time. This is a Visio 37" also with expired warrantee of course. The audio system also makes small clicking sound sometimes and if I cycle the power it will stop.

vizio 42 in plasma that is turning itself off. It makes a clicking sound when it does it and after also. What is wrong

I called Sony, Mine you can't turn it back on after you turn it off. I have to wait as least 1 day before it will come back on again (coolong time?). If you notice the power lite blinks in segments of 7. I call the Sony repair shop in my area he said it is a known problem and it would cost about 250 to 300 to fix PLUS 125.00 if they picked it up. I weighs 200 lbs. So for now I just turn off the cable box and not the TV, that will do until I buy a new plasma. Hope this helps.

mine does the exact same thing

  • bobby152 Jul 04, 2008

Same exact problem as described here in OttoinPDX Vizio 37 turns off to standby at various times. Will stay on if a fan blows on the back--so obviously some component fails from temperature. I'd be happy if I could just fuse the switch to be on permanently and use an external switch to turn on and off, but the internal switching of this set has me baffled.

I had a similar problem with my 32 inch plasma tv. I called vizio's
1 800 number and the guy said to unplug the tv from the wall and hold down the power button for a minute and then plug the tv back in outlet and turn on. And it works I guess from what I understood from his heavy accent was that the tv retains power and this resets it somehow. hope that was helpfull!!

Unplug everything from the tv: hdmi, pc, cable, and power, then hold the power button on the tv down for like 30 Mississippi seconds and then reconnect power, turn tv on. then one by one plug everything back in.

it worked for me

i was turning my tv on and off for hours then i compiled all that info and tried it.

oh and when your doing all this try to think of a way to save some money to buy a new NON vizio tv.

Problem Solved!!! I recently had same problem just because I got a new wireless router and I didn't set a new password in the TV. After that the TV just shut off by it self every 10-20 minute. Then I tried to reset the it by go MENU> HELP> Clear Memory (Factory Default) After it reboot then set a new router Admin Id & password. And that's it. No more self shutting off. Hope this will help you guys.

I have a 37" vizio it was turning its self off after being turned on, Found out through tec support that it was in RGB mode.... a miss hit of the remote button......... what that does .... as explained to me , the tv becomes a monitor and was looking for an innput signal after not finding one , it turns itself off , or puts its self to sleep.. All you have to do to fix it is hold the INPUT button in while turning on the POWER button on the side of the TV.

  • rhrichmond Apr 30, 2011

Your a genius - I couldn't do it with the buttons on the side - but managed to do it with the remote - Thanks.

Solution: A new wifi extender, or a new or reset wireless modem or router in the range of the TV will cause this problem. Disconnect the TV from wifi, then reconnect manually and this will solve the problem. If you are not comfortable manually setting up the wifi connection you can reset the TV to factory settings and go through the setup process but you will also need to re-program the remote control again. (look in your manual to find instructions).

yes my 26" sharp aquous LCD does the same thing, turns itself off and on at random times without explanation. I sent to authorized service center they replaced the power supply under warranty then it failed within 6 months and neither the repair center nor sharp will do anything about it other than sell me a new powersupply for $425.00. I have contacted a power supply repair center in Texas who has vowed to fix it once and for all. We'll see in the next week if they fix it or not.
