Question about MSI KM4M-L Motherboard

Msi on board video

Hi
I bought a computer with a MSI KM4M-L motherboard a few years ago and had installed at the time a Radeon 9600 graphics card. Over the years, we have often had lock ups and resets, which I often attributed to the graphics card or drivers due to the type of lock up ie video would go all strange first.

I finally decided to just pull the card, remvoe the drivers and go with the on board graphics board (circuit?)

Now I have an exclamation mark under "Hardware/SystemDevice Manager/Other devices/video controller" telling me this device is not installed correctly (code 1) but I do not know where to find correct drivers.

How do I reinstall MSI original drivers for this mother board or do I need drivers for the on board video circuit? MSI site is confusing. The motherboard book does not help much either.

Suggestions?
Thanks
Shawn

    Hi

Thanks for the response and solution. It did resolve the issue of the "exclamation mark" but now I have another question. The reason I went looking through the settings is that when I scroll on pages on IE, the page updates very slowly. It does not seamlessly scroll up but rather goes up (or down) in bars? Know what I mean? It used to just move up or down smoothly but now it is showing how it is updating the screen, I guess. I thought that by correctly installing the drivers, this issue would be resolved but obviously it is something else. I do not know what the correct description of ths problem would be to even do a search.

    Again, suggestions?

    Thanks for your time too!!

The cd that came with the board should have the right drivers on it for your onboard graphic card. if not here is the driver:

Graphics cards

Hi noxiney, you're MSI motherboard does have 1 opened AGP 8x4x slot. You can install & run the ATI Radeon X1650 PRO AGP. You can not run PCI-Express because there are no PCI-E slots on the board. There are PCI (White in color) on the board but the AGP slot is much faster than the PCI (White in color slots). The manual states the AGP card can only support 1.5volt video cards & not 3.3volt AGP cards. (Keep this in mind when looking for an AGP card).
Below is a link to a bunch of AGP 8x4x video cards. One or two include DDR2 memory. Carefull where you buy. Check the warranty. (Longer is better). The first one on the list would be compatible. Its not DDR2 but it does have 512MB of memory.
http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=AGP+ATI+Radeon+X1650+PRO&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title

This card is 1.5v compatable.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3101648&CatId=318
& this is compatable.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1642902&CatId=318
Just remember, if the card can run both 8x & 4x it should support the 1.5volt needed to function on the MB.

Enjoy!

Radeon graphics card and 3rd RAM slot conflict

I thought this board looked familiar to me. I recall some rules for the memory cards. Do all your memory cards meet this requirement:

Supports up to 3GB PC1600/2100/2700/3200* DDR SDRAMs

If you are using DDR 400 you can only use 1 slot.

What kind of memory are you using?

Video incompatibility?

The driver & Catalyst Control Center for the ATI Radeon 9600 Series is listed below for Win XP home & Pro. Lasted updated Jan-16-2008.

Your install will run better if you remove previous software versions for the Radeon 9600. If your attempt to remove old software fails. ownload & run ATI's cat-uninstaller.exe found here.:
