Question about HP Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook
On my laptop i had a virus and my usb ports stopped working. did a pc recovery and usb ports still don't work. i checked device manager and they are to be working properly. is there a solution?
On both the compaq laptops owned by my daughters, one or more USB ports have gone dead. The fix has required dissassembly of the unit and really careful resoldering of the pins from the USB ports to the motherboard. It apparently takes very little torque on the USB connector to break the solder joints and as my daughters tend to use their laptops in a manners that stress the connectors ( on the couch or bed for example) the internal connectors just plain break. Cheap *****if you ask me.

Reinstall your USB drivers:
Navigate to Device manager, find a branch named "USB Controllers" or similar
Right click the one thats the problem (or all of them if you dont know which), select Uninstall
Reboot your machine and windows will autodetect the USBs and reinstall their drivers.
