Unknown files and impossible to delete

I've had my 4GB e260 sansa for over 9 months, and just now when I tried to clean up all my songs, unknown files appeared in the MUSIC file. They either have a wierd symbol or just a letter, and the message I get when I try to delete them is 'Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk'. It hasn't caused any problems regarding the songs, but it takes up some space. Can anyone help?

Mine is the same way! There are files and my computer tries to delete them but it never can. It won't load anymore music and it's completely useless. I've tried restarting it but it won't and I can't do anything with it.

I have the same problem. I tried manually deleting files, but they keep reapearing. I also have an endless amount of "music" subfolders. In every "music" folder there is another "music" folder and so on...

None of these can be deleted... the strange files, some songs, and the music folders. I cannot do anything because the MP# player doesn't seem to respond to my computer. Formatting it fails too.

First turn on the palyer and change the usb mode to MSC and when you connect it the the computer it should show up as a flashdrive type thing. right click on ita and select format make sure the when you format it it is going to be formatted to FAT32 type it will delete every thing on the player including those files you said couldnt be deleted

Try delete everythinng on your device and that should work..
To delete songs from your device follow the steps below
You have to make sure that the device is on MSC mode...then make sure your device is plug in to the computer..Then go to programs - accesories - windows explorer, find the SanDisk in my computer, go to media, music and delete them from there.
Either under sync panel in your windows media player it will show your music when it's connected. just click the plus signs for what song you need to get rid of, right click and click delete.
To format it..on your device..go under..menu, setting and there should be a format option option there..let me know if that doenst work for you...
Hope this helps

Sansa 4Gb Wont let me add or delete songs anymore!

If the PC does not recognize the player, try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
