hmm it seems one or two things happened the sound was muted or there's a driver issue with the computer's onboard sound try uninstalling the sound driver from the device manager and reboot this should make the computer reinstall the audio drivers for the laptop's sound card (note microsoft will have its own HD sound card driver files to get sound working look on acer's website to get the native sound card drivers for your pc if you wish)
i have acer travelmate 290 laptop, recently I formated my laptop and I installed windows xp home edition on it, every thing works fine after I installed the operating system with my acer recovery disk, but when i switch on my wireless button it gives blue screen and immediatly restart the laptop. i tried uninstalled and installed the wireless drivers no luck.
remove your current driver and install this one http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOUND-CARD/OTHER-SOUNDCARDS/Acer-TravelMate-2480-Audio-Driver-51005273.shtml
- here is the link where you can get the driver software for the system you have . All you need to do is get the product model you have and look for the specific driver for your WINDOWS .
