Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook

1 Answer

Wont power up

I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D1840 laptop. Ive had it for 18 months and been very pleased with its reliability and performance, although it gets very hot. I do regularly remove the bottom cover and clear the fans and remove the dust from inside.

Suddenly one day I was using it and it turned off on its own, I rebooted and finished my tasks. This problem got progressivly worse. A friend had a simular problem and suggested to replace the hdd, so I did. This made no difference whatsoever.

When I turn it on now, it may get as far the manufacturers screen, but then turns off. If it doesnt get that far, it just stays on, with a black screen for a few minutes. Any suggestions?

Kind regards

Thanks for the suggestion, I did check and re apply some new thermal grease. Also while I had the cover off I decided to remove my hdd as I remember that particular area getting very hot, and on closer inspection it looks like the main board has sweated and fried some of the units soldered to the board. So I am now currently looking for a mainboard. Thats just the sort of thing that i need to spend out on being on a pathetic student wage!

Sounds like it is shutting down to 'protect' itself, because the thermal grease has dried out, and can no longer transfer heat correctly.

You will need to take it apart, and separate the heatsink from the cpu.

Clean both contact areas (the heatsink and the cpu) and apply new thermal grease.

try taking out and reseating the ram sticks - if that doesn't work there is probably a motherboard fault.
