Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook
I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D1840 laptop. Ive had it for 18 months and been very pleased with its reliability and performance, although it gets very hot. I do regularly remove the bottom cover and clear the fans and remove the dust from inside.
Suddenly one day I was using it and it turned off on its own, I rebooted and finished my tasks. This problem got progressivly worse. A friend had a simular problem and suggested to replace the hdd, so I did. This made no difference whatsoever.
When I turn it on now, it may get as far the manufacturers screen, but then turns off. If it doesnt get that far, it just stays on, with a black screen for a few minutes. Any suggestions?
Sounds like it is shutting down to 'protect' itself, because the thermal grease has dried out, and can no longer transfer heat correctly.
You will need to take it apart, and separate the heatsink from the cpu.
Clean both contact areas (the heatsink and the cpu) and apply new thermal grease.
