Jenn air french door refrigerator broken by repair company

I purchased a jenn air, french door refrigerator in 2004. in sept. 07, it stopped working. jenn air customer service sent a authorized repair person who purportedly installed a "hard start kit." it broke down again in dec. 07. jenn air sent another authorized repair person from another company. he opened the fridge, looked at it and refused to do anything. he said the first repair person installed a "3 in 1 booster" which is a temporary fix, to be installed in an emergency and designed to last for only 3 months. the 2nd tech said this "3 in 1 booster" caused the compressor to blow out and refused to do anything else for fear his company would be blamed for the faulty repair. jenn air refuses to do anything other than send another repair person to try and "fix it." i am wary. would the installation of a "3 in 1 booster" (instead of the "hard start kit") cause the compressor to be blown? any thoughts would be extremely helpful.

Ill be glad to shed some light on this for and stand behind this as I too am a Factory authorized dealer. These units did come with faulty compressors failing about 80% of the time. What happens is the compressors get worn and stop starting properly. You can make them work temporarily by installing a 3n1 (basically makes the compressor have more starting torque). However they eventually get so worn that even a 3n1 cant start it. Ive never read any bulletins from any major company (Frigidaire used this same compressor) saying a 3n1 voids warranty. It certainly didnt damage the compressor it was already damaged when the tech installed the 3n1. Also these compressors are failing at such a high rate its not even questionable that the 3n1 damaged anything. Honestly it really sounds to me like the tech is nit-picking not wanting to do the labor intensive job of changing the compressor. He may not even be able to. Also the new compressor should be a 8201555 (I just did one this afternoon ---thats how common this is) and its a much more reliable Embraco compressor. Once its installed you should have no more compressor issues for many years. Feel free to have anyone who questions my solution to call anytime 850-510-9563 (Joey Shearer, Precision Appliance, Tallahassee, FL)

I disagree with geob91 in that a 3n1 in any way damages compressors. When properly sized (there are 2 different Supco 3n1 Starters depending on the HP of the compressor) they dont damage the compressor. Also I always check how fast the overload protector takes to shut the compressor down in event of rapid cycling. If it doesnt react in 10-15 secs i wire in a OEM klixon overload to the common terminal on the compressor. Also r134a compressrs do not need run capacitors to work, and it certainly doesnt damage them to not use one. (like with a 3n1). Its just more efficient with one. Some models dont have run capacitors from the factory.

Yes a 3 in one kit is primarilly used on older fridges that use the old freon(r-12) and sometimes needed a start cap to make them work.the newer fridges use a different freon(r-134a)and require a run cap to make them work.placing a start cap on a compressor that needs a run cap WILL DESTROY THE COMPRESSOR.the factory may or may not cover the repair.i would be on the phone with the company that installed this device and raise cain.i have been in this trade for some time now and am still amazed at the really stupid shortcuts that some companys make

Thats right. That first repairman should of install new compressor, but it would be around 1000$ repair, or he could help You out with 100$ bill by installing 3-n-1 hard start, but there is usually no warranty, compressor was weak at first visit. I don't understand why second repair man did not want to replace compressor. Thats normal thing to try to get everything out of that compressor.

I bought my maytag ice2o French door refrigerator from home depot 8 monthss ago. Loved it when I got it, but soon after had problems with the ice maker. They replaced the ice maker. Now the ice maker is still having problems. Its not strong enough to break up all the ice. The ice cubes freeze in big blocks causing the system to clog. Last night the thing took on a mind of its own. All the lights are flashing on the control panel, the ice and water maker don't work at all. Should I replace myself a piece there? Where can I find the right appliance parts for this refrigerator?

Jenn air french door water dispenser broken

You have two sides to your 67006531 Dual Water Inlet Valve, so it is very possible the side that controls the water flow for the dispenser is defective. Replace the 67006531 Dual Water Control Valve and I believe your fridge water will work fine.

I have a major dent in the right door of my french door Jenn air fridge what is the cost of a new door.Model JFC2089H Stainless.

Depending on the part supplier the door will run about $400.00 to 700.00, I know that is really high!

One option you may have is to call around to service companies that work on Jenn Air, they may be able to look out for a door that they are replacing for someone that only has a small dent or scratch, and rather than scrap the old one, recycle it with you.

Not sure if that is an option but worth a shot

You have two fans and a compressor which could be making the noise. Inside the freezer behind the back cover is the evaporator fan. It probably stops running when you open the door. Hold the door switch down to keep the fan running to see if it's making the noise.
the compressor and other fan is under the unit accessed from the back behind the cardboard cover.
