Question about Philips FTR-9964 Tuner/Receiver for Plasma

1 Answer

Philips plasma Hi there, I have had a Philips Plasma 42" tv for a about 30 months. It's been fine until today when it will not power up and it is just a blinking red light where it is usually green. I have seen others with similar problems. I I am terrified to take it to the repair shop and what they might find..just to come out to the house and get a diagnosis of the problem its going to be $200...... It's a $2000 tv and now it don't even work..Is it worth it to get a tv like this fixed, I mean I feel like I have no choice? and of course, the warranty is only good for 1 year..i feel so sick to my stomach now.. what would you all do if you were in my shoes? -Valerie New Orleans, LA

I had this problem. If you are saying it happened on your plasma screen rather than the receiver box, then the problem can be that the power source inside the plasma needs to be replaced. But Philips will charge a fortune for just looking at the TV. So you might as well take it to your local repair shop.

Hello,

Your power supply board is dead, u know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors. These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable, and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Hope this help in solving the problem....

Crack on the inside screen of my 42" Philips Plasma TV

This is a known problem with Philips. If you keep on them they will work with you. Another option is call a repair shop in your area and see if they can help you out. Sometimes a repair shop will help out if you allow them to do the service if they are able to get Philips to pay for the repair.
Good Luck

I own a Philips plasma panel,model number 42PF9966/79

if you can do component testing and or if you want to spend about $20-$30 in components , you could replace all the electrolytic capacitors , voltage regulators/zener diode and check/replace bad resistors.
or yes , start the board replace process

Philips FTR 9964 Receiver Problem

The problem is in your cable connection on the back of your monitor or Box. I had the same problem and solved it by reattaching the VGA cable that was loose.
