Question about ViewSonic N3250W Television

Viewsonic N3250W won't power on

A local 911 Dispatch center has three of these LCD TV's. They all had Manufacture date of July 2005 on them Three of four have all gone down with no power up problem. Found capacitors bad on all three, able to fix first two with after market better caps. This last unit has burnt-up power supply and can't get any support from Viewsonic fort repairs. Unable to reach anyone last two weeks. Heard they moved from NC to CA and things are back logged. Never deal with Viewsonic products again.

Same problem, same TV. I was able to find a repair shop in the San Francisco bay area to repair it, but they had to order replacement parts from Korea. Fix priced repair around $300.

i need a new circit board

  • technoob May 11, 2010

Hello, I have the exact same tv with the exact same date of manufacture - July 2005. I removed the back and checked that I had 120v going to the unit and that the fuse was good on the first circuit board. I presume the capacitor you mention is the big blue one around the middle of the board. I do not know where I could get one of these, and , as far as installing a new one, would it just be the case of removing the existing one and soldering in the new one. Need to know if some knowledgeable person would recommend I try this. I am fairly competant with a soldering gun. Any information on getting my tv working again with the minimum of cost would be great.
    Kind Regards,
    Vince

Got the same problem for a N3250. I'm not an electronic engineer and will attempt to fix my TV. Therefore I got the FSP2123F02 ($49.75)and now they have a harness 4WT0062302GP ($8.90) that will do a quick plug and play and will avoid any solder of the pins. That is my understanding can anyone corroborate this procedure. By the way I got both products from electronica-usa.com
I repaired it on June 28th with the lsit of parts above
More deatil information here (of the problem) http://forum.eserviceinfo.com/viewtopic.php?p=149367#149367

I just repaired an FSP 212-3F01 power supply in a Viewsonic N3250W. I have seen the same power supply listed for the N3235W. This one was totally dead with no 5V stand by present. The problem was a shorted internal voltage regulator made up of Q7 and ZD4. The Q7 is a SOT23 size device and appears to be too small and over heats in the design. In this case it shorted from the over heating and that caused ZD4 to fail and shut down a 15V bias supply on the power supply board. I replaced Q7 with a 2N4401 to give it more power capability. Any small NPN transistor with a 25V or higher Vce rating will probably work. ZD4 is a 15V zener diode.

Go to Power-On.com and look under LCD TV. It takes 6 to 10 days to get a new replacement for $45 plus S/H. The replacements come with a pin plug where the soldered on cable of the original is located. Depending on your set, you may have to unsolder the pins and use the cable from the old unit in it's place (an easy modification). ViewSonic was rather inconsistent on the power supplies they used. All are form and fit replacements with only the physical difference of the cable. You can contact me at InVisionTec@Comcast.net if you have questions.

I looked at the good advice given by JRnTX to diagnose a Viewsonic N3252W with the symptom of no power. I tested the Q7 transistor and ZD4 zener diode and both were bad. I replaced the transistor with a 2N4401 transistor and the zener diode. I also replaced all the capacitors while I had the board out. I tested them all with an ESR meter. Several were out of spec but none completely gone. Good preventative measure to replace them anyway. Only a few pennies. Total cost to repair the board was about 7 to 10 dollars. I already had some of the required capacitors and don't remember their initial cost but they are pretty cheap. The power supply board was FSP212-3F01. It has now been replaced by FSP212-3F02 which usually comes with a backward compatible adapter to replace the 3F01. If you have a "no power" issue with one of these TVs that use the 3F01 board check the Q7 and ZD4 first. They are surface mount components so look for them on the underside of the board, not on the top.

Check the power supply, it seems to be a common problem with this tv. this website was made by some brilliant french guy and it gives a lot of good information about the problem, and how to fix it. I recommend either getting a new board from one of the suppliers he lists or do as I did and get the small chip and solder it in or have someone do it for you. mine is working great and I only spent $20 on the chip.

I use through hole 2N2222 to fix my Viewsonic N3250 ,and Protron 3250. Both TVs use the power supply made by FSP with similar circuits.
Both power supply have bad caps and bad Q7 and ZD4.

Remove the TV from the power for a few minutes, and then power on, then check the volume, effectively you have reset the set. If it still will not work, check the manual for any sleep settings etc, and work through the setup again for the channels. Now if none of that works, and it isn't a remote control issue? Then unfortunately you indeed have a problem with the set and it will need to be serviced. it will most likely be a microprocessor and ambient background noise sensor or the like, this will have to be replaced. To this end get a "Quote" from a certified repairer, and go from there?

The Menu Screen blinks on and off while te TV is on.

Sounds like either three things are happening - 1 check your buttons on the tv and remote to make sure the menu button isnt stuck or doesnt have pressure on it to cause this 2 - your av card is bad or 3 your tv is possessed. :-) I'd check 1 and 2 first.

thanks,
michael

Power supply module will be the first thing to check, look for bad caps, find out if it has standby 5vdc and other voltages.

Viewsonic N3250w. Power supply went out and I replaced the bad capacitors. TV worked for a week then now when I turn it on, the screen just turns on and off

Check to see if the 24vdc disappear when the screen black out, it is always there then you have problem in the backlight inverter board. Did you replace the caps in the 24vdc supply also? I replace the whole set.
