GE zv950 monogram hood problem

Sirs, I'm in need of a solution. For the last 3 years since building this new home we continue to have a noise problem coming from this hood. The noise is being created by some sort of flapper above the fan motors. Every thime the wind blows over 12 MPH it lifts up those flappers and chimes. There have been many times when the sound has been so loud that we have to close our bedroom door to get some sleep, and its 75 feet away from the kitchen. GE has been of no help what so ever --even after I sent them a tape of the sounds it creates. No manager of GE would stand for these sounds in there home for 10 minutes much less hours and hours. I have had the roof vent goose neck replaced with a low profile exhust vent and that has reduced the noise by maybe 20% but it is still very noises and often a factor. One can not remove the fan motors to access this area of the hood because it bolts from the top down. I have a decortive wrap around GE cover that goes up about 13 feet into the attic and it would need to come down to remove the duct work and try to address the problem. Any suggestions for me? Could I harm myself if I removed those flappers? I live in SW Florida where cold weather is not often an issue. The last time I talked to GE they suggested an insulation foam type tape be applied to the outside of the cover to soften the sound---ya that would sure look nice on there $1200.00 hood in our kitchen. The sounds are driving me to the edge! Really appreciate your reply In Advance Thank You Best Pete

Re: GE zv950 monogram hood problem

You should be able to remove the flappers they are there for energy reasons. I cannot see how a little fresh air entering your house could be a problem. By the way I had the same problem in Ft laud with my hood. Just held the flapper up and used a touch of super glue to lock the shaft. Good luck

Ge monogram fan dying slow death...first hi-spd. only, now only humming, lights it fuse, transformer or worse, blower assembly

My best guess is the blower motor is going out -- probably the bearings. You might be able to replace just the motor excluding the propeller or the squirrel cage as the case maybe.

My GE downdraft (ZVB36) does not function. I had to unplug it because it make a continuous humming sound. I have looked for a reset button & could not find one.

The crank arm which raises and lowers the hood has jammed most likely against the vertical bearing guide in the center of the box.
Fix is:
a. If the hood is up, support it somehow so it doesn't crash down. Unplug the whole unit.
b. Pull off the box covering the motor and electricals.
c. Pull off the motor/gearbox assembly. Careful here, as this will release the crank arm which may still be under some load, causing the gearbox assembly to rotate on you.
d. Bend everything back into shape.
e. You may need a new crank arm or gearbox if the shaft to the crank arm is bent.
f. Reassemble. This is most easiy done if the hood is held up by someone or something.

Where is the fuse located in a ge monogram hood ZV750SY4SS?

there is a black electrical connection box inside the hood which contains the electrical feed, connections and the fuse which is a WB02X10584, rated 8A 250V. Remove the fuse, take a look to see if it is good [wire still intact] or check it for continuity and reinstall it if is good. Just removing it and reinstalling it is usually enough to have it work. regards, Joe

Ge monogram hood has power but not working

I have the same problem, only worse. The fuse is in the stack above the motor. You have to remove the vent decorative cover (that stainless tube that goes to the ceiling) and the fuse is in the low voltage circuit close to or inside the gray box that looks like a transformer (on the left). Mine blew out and I replaced the fuse, which lasted for about two months. I replaced it again and it lasted two days. Then, I replaced the triac with an NTE5679 (over on the right) (replaces ECG5679) about two years ago, and the fuse lasted until today. I do not know what to do now. We did not touch a switch just before the fuse blew. The fan was not running, but the lights were on. I think I will try a slightly larger fuse, but first I may look at replacing the fuse with a breaker that I can install behind the filters, instead of removing the stack cover every time the circuit goes out. Good Luck to you.
