I have a RCA HD50LPW42, the tv stopped showing the picture awhile back but the sound continued when the tv was turned on. Now the sound has gone out too. When I turn the tv on the green power light blinks...

You may have two problems with your TV. This TV has a history of a color wheel issue, was making grinding noise? Have you ever changed the lamp?
It may be a bad color wheel and the lamp, you may want to do a visual inspection.
It is easy to replace the lamp but more likely the color wheel is the problem.
The part# for the color wheel is 212184, the part# for the lamp is 260962

Best of luck

When i turn on the tv there is a high pitch sound and tv will not come clicks on and off 2 or 3 times before i need to hit the power again

Try this,
Listen where the sound came from, mostly from color wheel.
Open back cover unit, open assy engine , pull out color wheel and rotate manually and listen it again.
If color wheel rotated not smooth, replace it.

Turn on TV hear a buzzing and then the TV cycles off and on again

Hi,If it seems you are experimenting a color wheel problem. The color wheel is a rotating disc that has a gamma of colors it spins at high rpms. The light of the lamp goes through it to create the colors on your tv.When it starts to go bad you will get color distortion ,black and white picture and sometimes you will hear humming noises.I found it with complete light engine assembly here:

The tv shuts off by itself. I will turn it on..and after awhile, it just turns off by itself, and then after about a minute I can turn it on again and watch tv for awhile, and then it will do it again.

It seems that your unit has some sort of PSU fault, or a problem that is shutting down the Power Supply Unit, PSU. This happens so that no further damage, and possible fire will occur. The faulty component(s) are heating up, tripping the fault control, and shutting down, it cools down again, and will restart, then the process repeats, it will eventually fail fully.
You need to take the unit to a reputable service centre/man and ask for a firm "Quote" for the work to be done. It is that sound that gives it away, this is a typical switchmode Power Supply problem.

When turning on the TV, I hear a banging/grinding sound.

If you hear a grinding, whirling, spining or buzzing sound, that sounds to me like the COLOR WHEEL,the reason for that is because your color wheel spins at 5,000 rpms(revolution per minute) and something that modifies the balance of the disc can cause different things,Unfortionatelly the only way to check that the color wheel is working properlyis you need to check it out physically

I did some research and I found the color wheel at DM;

Please keep us posted.
