We have black horizontal bars (more than one..like 5 that are on the left, right and center) on our screen that comes and goes. Also green specks. Is there an easy and cosf-effective fix..or should we just purchase a new tv?
Well, if they are pretty much all across the screen, one thing you can do is pull the ribbon cables off the Xdrive left, Xdrive right & the Control PWB and clean the contacts and maybe loosen the screews a bit on the plates that attach to the frame that hold the cables in place and see if that chages the situation for you. They make contact with the boards by pressure and if it is uneven or not fully making good contact you will loose the element in those areas. If all else fails your looking at replacing the boards or better yet...get a new TV.
Had the same problem. Was quoted $800 to fix. Searched the internet for 6 months and found this thread on avforums.com

Read through all the posts. Very simple fix, but you have to have some mechanical inclinations or you can cause more problems than you started with. I was up to 5 of the black lines, but decided to attempt the soldering these guys did and fixed it all for the cost of a soldering iron! Even if you decide not to attempt it, it gives you somewhere to start to tell a technician.

my hitachi is only 3 years old. it has five or so horizonal lines down the right side of the screen. i tried changing the station and sometime goes into a fuzzy red screen but eventually back to the horizonal lines. Is this going to be a serious problem for a tv that is so new. if so, it's a hugh ripoff! any suggestions?
