Dodge 2002 caravan abs/brake light flashes on for 5 seconds and then shuts off. The brakes ALSO engage by themselves during this flash. No codes are stored when this happens because the light doesn't stay on... Please help! Thanks

check brakes as sensors for anti lock brakes will start flashing and and doing things when brakes less than 25% if not that it is probably the abs sensor
Its the brake system. The flashing light tells you something is wrong with the cruise components. Could be the brake light switch, or the ABS if equipped.
The ABS would not shut off the engine, I suspect something with the engine is causing the shut down (fuel pump, or other things) and the ABS light gets triggered during that event.
ABS = ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM
YOU NEED TO SCAN FOR CODES
MAY BE A WHEEL SENSOR OR TONNER RINGS
COULD BE A CHAFE WIRE
BRAKES HAS RESORTED TO OLD SYLE SYSTEM
THAT IS WHY YOU STILL HAVE BRAKES BUT NOT ABS BRAKES
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC Recall for 2002DODGECARAVAN
Recall Announced MARCH 13 2006
NHTSA Reference #06E022000
Number Affected 7,440
Summary: Certain aftermarket brake hydraulic
master cylinders sold as replacement brake cylinders for certain Ford,
DaimlerChrysler, and Jeep passenger vehicles. These brake cylinders
were sold under the brand names of Napa, raybestos, aimco, ac delco,
Carquest, bendix, and wagner. Only products that were manufactured from
July 27, 2005 through January 17, 2006 (date codes 0529 through 0602)
are subject to this recall. When subject to very cold temperatures, an
internal seal in the master cylinder could lose flexibility and may
cause brake fluid to leak. Consequence: Loss of brake fluid can lead to a
decrease in brake line pressure and an increase in stopping distance,
which can result in a vehicle crash. Fix: Affinia (brake parts, Inc.) will replace the
subject brake hydraulic master cylinders free of charge. The recall
began on March 20, 2006. Owners can contact affina group customer
service at 1-800-323-0354.
For detailed information & supporting documents, see the official NHTSA page concerning recall #06E022000 »
It means that for the time that the ABS light is on, your ABS system should be inspected. If it flashes, then it means you have brakes but your anti-lock function will not operate.
RWAL Fault codes Codes for Dodge RWAL, Ford RABS and GM RWAL
applications are similar but have a few differences:
Should not occur (replace the controller if it does)
Open isolation valve circuit or defective ABS module
Open dump valve circuit or defective ABS module
Grounded or closed RABS or RWAL valve switch
Excessive actuations of dump valve during ABS
braking
Erratic speed sensor signal
Shorted isolation valve or defective ABS module
Shorter dump valve or defective ABS module
High resistance or open speed sensor circuit (resistance
should be 1000 to 2500 ohms)
Low speed sensor resistance (Dodge & Ford only)
Open speed sensor circuit (GM only)
Stop lamp switch circuit (Dodge & Ford)
ABS module speed processor (Dodge & Ford only)
ABS module program (Dodge & Ford only)
ABS module RAM memory failure (Dodge & Ford)
To manually clear a stored fault code on GM
and some Dodge trucks with RWAL, remove the ABS fuse or disconnect the battery
for 5 seconds. Ford RABS codes will automatically clear when the ignition is
turned to the off position.
