Changing ink for X1290

Apparently this particular printer is no longer on the market. The 1270 is listed and appears to be the same printer except it's white instead of black. The cartridges listed for that printer arelexmark 16, 17, 26, or 27.

I have a Canon Pixma iP4300 printer and the Yellow ink is not printing. I have changed the particular cartridge and all other colours are working except Yellow. I have cleansed the printer several times and tried with new Yellow ink cartridges with new chips, but nothing helps.
What should I do?

There are a few things you can try. First run the printers cleaning software that was installed.
In a windows XP operating system, Click the start button, than slide to and click on Printers and Faxes. Your default printer will have a check mark to the right of the printer icon. Right click on that icon. A pop-up window will open, slide down and left click on "Properties". Than click on "Printing Preferences". Next, Click on the "Services Tab". Than, click "Service this device". You should be able to run the, "Clean the Print Cartridges". After the printer finishes cleaning, print a test page. If this helped but not enough than manually clean the ink cartridge' (s). Remove one ink cartridge and lay it onto a few paper towels. Take a clean lint free cloth and dampen it with some water. With the print heads facing down slide it across the dampen cloth a couple of times. Now clean out the ink carriage. Dampen some cotton swabs and clean the inside of the carriage. Use dry cotton swabs to dry the carriage. When you look into the carriage you'll find a copper plate with dimples. Use a drop or two of house hold alcohol and wipe the surface of the copper. Re-insert your ink cartridge. Repeat for the other cartridge and carriage.
Water breaks down any dried ink. The alcohol removes oils. Below is a link to Lexmark;

Make sure you are using factory new Canon ink cartridges.

If you purchased re-filled cartridges or third party cartridges that is most likely your problem.

I moved from the UK to the US with an hp 7310 all in one and also ran into the same problem. You need to call HP support for them to change the region of your printer to accept the locally available ink cartridges. A max of 3 changes is allowed, and as the previous poster has mentioned, if your printer is out of warranty they will try to sell you an extended warranty to "fix" the problem. in short the best way to get around it is to get your cartridges refilled. In the US Office Max charges $10 for black which is about1/5 the price of the retail hp393 cartridge that I need to purchase from the UK. in my opinion I am going to avoid HP products from now on.
