Re: Battery maintenance

Laptop battery has integrated Microcontroller which manages the current and charge limit. Whenever battery is full it will stop charging. When you are using the computer if unit is connected the Outlet it will not consume battery power. So battery will stay unused.

if you are not using computer mobile and electricity has no black out, you may release the battery keep in dry and cool place. this will be 2nd option for you to choose.

Also having latest BIOS update is better for the battery. As BIOS updates includes some power management fixes.

Whenever electricity is accessible I encourage you to use the AC adaptor rather than battery. Because each Charge-Recharge cycle is a step to reduce the battery's life. Technically battery looses its performance after 500 cycles.
Hope it will be helpful

How to increase the life of the laptop battery

Below mentioned are the suggestions that may help you achieve optimum performance from your battery.

1. We all know how wireless activities drain our device’s battery. They consume significant power even when not in use but left ON. So when on battery power, it’s advisable to turn off wi-fi and bluetooth services.
2. Say no to Screensaver: For best battery life, switch off the screensaver.
3. We should reduce the screen brightness to the lowest comfortable level in order to gain some extra battery life.
4. Unwanted Sounds: Try to mute the speakers volume and avoid using multimedia software for better battery life. Also you can avoid sound schemes which are installed which may reduce your battery life.
5. USB devices and other external peripherals should be shut and removed if not in use. For instance, charging an iPod while on battery, unless very essential, is a bad idea. The same goes for removing any CD or DVD when not in use.
6. Whenever our system runs out of RAM memory it uses virtual memory resulting in hard disk use, which is relatively a less efficient option in terms of power consumption. However, it goes without saying that additional ram does consume energy too so this advice suits best those users who often find themselves in need of extensive virtual memory.
7. It’s a good idea to shut down background programs to reduce CPU usage, say for instance desktop search applications.
8. Avoid using the plug-in DVD rom / external drives which generally runs on batteries. You can transfer the content to the hard drive or you can also run virtual drives like Pismo File Mount, Daemon tool or even Microsoft’s Virtual CD ROM Control Panel.
9. Optimize your power options to get maximum battery juice. The notebook should try to shut down the hard disk and put the display to sleep whenever idle.
10. For a healthy lithium based battery, it’s advisable to keep the electrons in motion occasionally. It’s not absolutely healthy to keep it plugged in all the time. Ideally, one should let it discharge fully at least once a month to keep the battery juice flowing.
11. When on battery power, say in a flight, use one application at a time. Ideally shut the email app once you’re done with it and then turn on the word processor.
12. A defragmented disk puts lesser strain on the battery and hard disk, so make your disk drive as efficient as you can by performing defragmentation regularly, say once every month.
13.Hibernating retains your system state as you last left it. So it’s more energy efficient than even shutting down the computer and booting it all over again.

Not really, the older NiCad batteries get a memory effect if you keep charging from a half charged state, but modern Lithium batteries do not suffer from this problem.
If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. These rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Batteries have a mind of their own!
Turn the laptop on and let it run the battery down completey. Don't worry about losing data as laptops, when set up properly, have a small sector on the hard drive that stores an image of the hard drive in machine code.
Run the battery down, re charge it with the laptop and repeat the routine at least 4 times. This should increase the likelyhood of an extended life of the battery.
When batteries are left charging permanently, they lose their charge life.
Hope this helps.

Is it ok to leave the laptop plugged in all the

Excess of anything is bad. Drainage works the best for the functioning of all batteries - even Humans :)

If it is a work laptop then you probably shouldn't care because first, you need the laptop working and fully charged always and second, the employer pays for the battery replacement anyways.

If it is a home computer, please try to fully charge it and then unplug, use and then charge again. This will ensure optimum battery performance and increase it's life.

Power problem

Seeing as you notice that your battery life is half, this most likely means your battery is no longer able to hold a charge, or a full charge. It could also mean the battery is defective.
If your laptop is still under warranty, the manufacturer may replace it. If not, you'll have to buy a new battery, unless you always keep it plugged in anyways.

Hi, can I operate the A 70 on mains power without a battery

Your battery will not charge until it reaches a lower limit of charge.
Whilst in the Laptop and using mains power your battery acts like a UPS and is available soon as you lose power.
The battery life will not be degraded or improved, removing it whilst plugged into mains.
When using Laptop om=n mains the battery is always there in case you lose power or somehow the lead gets pulled out inadvertantly, so you will not lose work.
I use a laptop all the time for work just got a new Latitude D630. The battery in my old lappy is still good for 2hrs+ and never been removed.
80% of its life was on mains.
Hope this helps.
