Question about Polycom VSX 7000 Video Conference

1 Answer

VSX 7000A connects domestically but cannot connect internationally

I'm having trouble when I try to connect international contacts my systems just hangs. Does anyone know any settings of this device that might be preventing me from doing international video conferencing? I tried several test sites internationally and they all do the same thing; however, when I contact test sites domestically, everything is fine.

Please check with your Internet Service provider. They might have a firewall which blocks the ports used for video conferencing

The reciever sounds like the speakers are shorted out. I can hear the audio at about 3/4 but it is distorted and not load at all. Is there an internal fuse that may be shorted out? Thanks for any help

Just disconnect the cables, use a fresh set and validate the connections from the receiver to the speakers... This happens when it's cross connected or you have the speakers connected to the Sub connection. Just validate the connections from the user / connection manual that you should have received with the set

that sounds like an internal connection problem, try getting inside the unit to where the internal wiring is connected, if you have signal coming through well thats a big plus, see if there are any loose wires or if the internal connection is damaged, would probably pay to replace the complete terminal, should be able to pick up XLR connections fairly easily from any electronic spare part dealer, trouble with this type of gear is that the connector is continually being used, so over time they do wear out or suffer damage

I would check your speakers OHM input requirements, usually an "overloading" indication is clipping the receivers internal amplification capabilities, also check speaker polarity to confirm exact + - connections

I've never worked on this brand, but almost all laptops have the power jack soldered right to the system board. Flexing the power connector can break the solder connections and cause the problems you describe. If there hasn't been any damage to the system board, these connections can be resoldered. Getting to them can be a challenge as it means removing the system board to get at the solder side. But if you have soldering experience, patience, a small screwdriver, and some attention to detail, you can fix this.

The only trouble that may pop up is that sometimes electrical arcing occurs where the connections break, and may burn the circuit board. Sometimes the area can be cleaned and successfully repaired, sometimes it's too far gone. But it never hurts to try the repair. Good luck!

Not able to getting video from Remote far end.

Is the Indian site within the firewall? If so, I would focus on the firewall. Does the US site have a firewall? They may be blocking outbound traffic. If you are connecting but no video, it sounds like UDP traffic is still being blocked somewhere. If you can, you may want to assign public IPs on the units and test outside of the firewall.

Hope this helps..
