Error 51 means that the purge inkpad is full.
This means you have 3 choices:
1- If it's still under warranty, activate it
2- Replace the inkpad, but sadly Brother does not provide spare parts and as such it will be extremelly difficult to find a compatible one.
3-Get in contact with BROTHER to get an estimate of the cost to replace the ink tank.
Hope i was of any help. If so, please rate me.
Error code 51 means that there is due to wate ink pads which are full. You'll need to clean these pads to remove the error message. Also check for any small bits of paper stuck under the printhead (check under the carriage). Try removing the cartridges and check for any bits of paper. Before doing any of the above said things please turn off the printer and unplug it from power source.
If this doesn't work then its an issue with the purge unit. The purge unit is responsible for carriage movement on the chrome bar.
It could be almost anything. It just means that some sensor within the printer is telling the printer that something is wrong. If there are no error messages to help narrow it down, you'll probably have to take it in for service.
One or more ink cartridges may be empty.
