Question about LG WD-14124RD Front Load Washer / Dryer

Kenmore Electric Dryer

I have a 10 year old Kenmore dryer. I recently replaced the motor and now the heating coil doesn't seem to be heating. I purchased a replacement and installed but the new element also fails to heat. I believe I have 220 volts at the element. Any suggestions?

If this is a Kenmore, have you checked the thermal cut-out or high-limit thermstat? Does the drum turn when you start the dryer?

If the drum turns, but does not heat, you will need to check the thermal cut-out (located on the heating element housing). The TCO should read a SHORT (0 ohms) or very low resistance. If it is OPEN, replace it along with the high-limit thermostat. In most cases the two components are sold as a set and are recommended to replaced as a set by the manufacturer.

Reason: The TCO is designed to protect the heating element and thermostat in the event of an overtemp condition. If the TCO is bad, there's a likely chance that the thermostat could be damaged.

If the TCO reads good, you may have a thermostat that is failing. The high limit thermostat operates normally in the CLOSED (shorted) position and will OPEN at or around 157 degrees F. It is located on the heating element housing adjacent to the TCO. If the thermostat has failed the dryer will tumble, but will not heat. Follow the same recommendation as for replacement of the TCO. Replace both components as a set.

Now...if the dryer drum does not spin, the likely cause is the thermal FUSE. It will be mounted on the blower housing near the blower fan. It is usually white (plastic) in color on Kenmore models. It should read a SHORT. If it fails the dryer will not spin or heat.

Post back with your comments or questions. I hope I'm leading you in the right direction.

Dryer warms..... but not enough heat to dry...about 10 years old 80 series Kenmore electric dryer

Probably has a broken heating coil...as the temperature goes up it expands and moves from natural position of touching....that would give the false indication of continuity in the coil when it cools back down and touches again. Visually inspect coil.

My Kenmore series 90 Gas dryer doesn't heat up.

This dryer is what I like to call a 4 wheel drive model. Because it has wheels on the front as well as the back. To access the gas assembly you pop open the bottom panel. Strat the dryer and observe the gas assembly. You should hear a click and then the ignitor should glow. Next the flame sensor should trip and cause the ignitor to shut down. The gas will now be allowed to come out and fire off a blast.I have 2 home videos. on shows the operation and replacement of the coils. The other is of an electric model but shows how to put the dryer together.

Dryer heats up, but does not dry clothes. Vent is clean

As you can see, your heating element has 5 heating coils. If one or more of these coils have opened you dryer will still work and heat but not at well as it would if all coils worked together. You can check each coil with an ohm meter to verify if one or more is open.

10 year old Kenmore dryer Series 80 suddenly has stopped producing heat. Vent is clean. What else can I try?

On a gas model dryer those coils seem to die when heated when they have a little age on em. So if the ignitor works and the dryer does a little bit of heating then fails and it is gas then those coils are the problem. On an electric model the element will get brittle with age and die but if your dryer is suffering from air restrictions it may have had a limit trip on it.

Kenmore dryer. Heats up intensely

Hi, It's an over heating motor that's cousing the thermal switch to trip, on the motor.

Motor retails for $150.
Labor for putting it in is $90.

It might just be worth replacing it.
Sorry for the bad news :(

Best of luck.

If you put a light load in the dryer will not trip the circuit at all. That means heavy load made the motor work harder and over heat, it going to trip the circuit , pretty soon, the motor will be warn out.

Kenmore Elec Dryer Won't Heat up

Sounds like either a faulty thermostat or heating element. Both are accessed from the lower right backside of the dryer behind a metal door. Be CAUTIOUS, the edges can be sharp and cut you very easily. Good luck.
