We are not receiving faxes

The machine rings and answers, but display says "receiving error. Ask sender to send again."
This is a new development - started about 2 weeks ago.
Occasionally, a fax will come through. Maybe 1 in 12 comes through.
We have it set for 3 rings.
The fax log is on, so we can see that there are faxes not coming through.
I have the same problem.

My psychic powers tells me it's a brother 1270 fax that is not connected properly????
