Question about Roland Vs-2000CD Digital Studio Workstation System

1 Answer

Mono instead of Sterio

I recorded a live instrument on Channel 1 and 2.  I showed VU meter on L and R.
Then I went to USB mode and and the transfer software showed data on 1-1 and 2-1 - I turned both "orange" and copied to my drive as APPLE AIF (this is  on a mac)
When opening the file I saved - it is mono.

Re: Mono instead of Sterio

Make sure you are panning hard left and hard right before you export the track. Why don;t you use the roland interface and bypass the mac all together.

Can i attach backup device to my lg HT356SD?

I would say yes, from what the manual says, the LG HT356SD has some Unique Features:

#1 Portable In : Listens to music from your portable device.
(MP3, Notebook, etc)

#2 USB Direct Recording : Records music from CD to your USB device.

Read the manual, on page 26 it will show you how to do it, I found it at under lg, or go directly to the link I provided.

Recording to USB
1. Connect the USB device to the unit.
2. Select a DVD/ CD function by pressing
One track recording - You can record to USB after
playing the file you want.
All tracks recording - You can record to USB after
Program list recording - After showing the
programmed list, you can record it to USB.
3. Start the recording by pressing X REC.
4. To stop recording, press Z STOP.

How to listen thru headphones using a yamaha emx 88 mixer

Did sound for a southern gospel group, using a yorkville powered mixer. Not familiar with your mixer, but, on the Yorkville I had an unused 1/4" line level output with the monitor mix on it. I bought a cigar-sized, 3-channel headphone amplifier / splitter from Radio Shack, called a Boosteroo. Has 1/8" stereo plug that I adapted to the mono output, with a 1/8" stereo to 1/4" mono adaptor. It receives the line level (monitor in our case) signal and supports up to qty 3 - 1/8" plug headphones. Battery operated. No volume control, so I added an inline dial (rheostat) volume control cable. Can't pull up on Radio Shack, now, but, found it available, elsewhere, online. Worked great for me!

Making Midi Files for Importing to Tascam 2488

You should always work in wav format if possible because there is a loss of quality with mp3 which is a compression format in which bits are lost in order to compress the file size.

There are a number of wav editors available which will allow you to load a stereo wav and then save it as a mono wav. The free one I use is called Audacity.

When working with FL or Reason I will sometimes import files to the Tascam, or I will take the outputs from my PCs sound card and line them into the tacams inputs and record them live. I only tend to do this with programs (like synths) where I am using an external midi keyboard and can play live what I want to record.

With basic drum pattern tracks I'll usually create them on the PC, save as wav, convert to mono, and then import to a track on the Tascam.

hope this helps.

Transferring songs onto new CF card

You'll have to create backups of your songs and transfer those backups using USB to your PC. Then with the 8 GB card inserted you can reimport them to the Tascam (USB) and restore them to the current working song which will then get saved on your 8 GB card. Do this for each song and then you can discard (delete) those backed up song files while connected to the PC.

Hope this helps.

Dp-o2 wont Import wav files from my pc

For wav files to be imported to the DP2 have to be 'mono' wav files. The DP-02 won't even show stereo waves in the fat area. So make sure you are converting any stereo wav files into mono first. That's usually the problem. They should also be 44.1 khz sampling frequency and 16 bit (I believe the DP-02 will accept a 24-bit wav, but the file will be truncated rather than dithered down to 16 bit while importing which may not be ideal for quality).

Hope this helps,

Can't import song from PC to DP-02 Unit and the Manual STINKS!!!!!

You shouldn't have to do any formatting. If you copied a wav file onto the DP-02 while connected with the USB and with the USB connection open, then you were already accessing the fat partition. One thing to be aware of is that the DP-02 only works with mono wav files. So if the wav file from you PC is being saved as a stereo wav (which is the default for most programs) then you'll have to specify mono instead. The DP-02 only works in 16 bit as well so on your PC you should be saving and wav files you wish to import as 16 bit, 44.lkHz mono wav files). That should be about it.

Hope this helps.

Tracks 13/14 etc...

As far as I'm aware there is no way to record to just one of the stereo paired tracks (channels) on the 2488. There are individual mono tracks underneath those channels, but they are controlled with one fader and can only be recorded to in stereo. They are designed to be used for recording stereo sources and stereo bounces. You can however record to any of tracks 1 to 12 and then move (assign) that track to say track (channel) 13 or you can clone any single track to any other track (channel).

The term track can be misleading on the 2488. It might be easier to refer to the 1-24 fader controlled 'tracks' on the 2488 as 'channel strips' and refer to each of the 250 virtual 'tracks' on the 2488 as 'tracks'. You can assign any of the 250 virtual tracks on the 2488 to any of the channel strips. So you have 250 tracks available, but can only work with 24 of them at a time. The stereo pairs just offer some extra convenience when working in stereo. They allow you to control the volume of two tracks with one fader making working with stereo easier.

Channels 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 4 and 6, ...11 and 12 can also be linked as stereo pairs and will be controlled with the fader of the odd numbered (first) track when linked.

Problem hearing a new recording after I press '2trk ito mix button?

You need tro set up the monitoring capability in your recording software under either hardware profiles or audio settings. All "good" recording software has this monitoring capability. There's another thing - I got rid of my Multimix 8 USB, because it wasn't allowing me to monitor as I recorded new tracks. At first it did, then about a year into using it, this function stopped, and when I investigated further, it was coming up as a single duplex sound card in my hardware profiles in Windows XP. It is as if that functionality of the soundcard component had burned out. Maybe on the circuit board...

I now have a gina Echo that I bought off eBay, and it was the best thing I ever bought. It is a hard card - no latency! Full monitoring! 24 bit recording! A hard card with a breakout box instead of USB! My recordings have never sounded better. The best thing about it is that I sold my ALesis adn was able to by the gina and have money left over - they are out of production (stupidly) and can still be purchased for anywhere between $50.00 - $80.00

You may or may not have a problem with your mixer - check your software settings first. If that isn't the problem, eBay is open 24 hours...
