Question about Roland Vs-2000CD Digital Studio Workstation System

1 Answer

Mono instead of Sterio

I recorded a live instrument on Channel 1 and 2.  I showed VU meter on L and R.
Then I went to USB mode and and the transfer software showed data on 1-1 and 2-1 - I turned both "orange" and copied to my drive as APPLE AIF (this is  on a mac)
When opening the file I saved - it is mono.

Make sure you are panning hard left and hard right before you export the track. Why don;t you use the roland interface and bypass the mac all together.

How do you connect tape deck to pmp 4000

Hi, use the RCA/Phono connections for the Tape In & Out. The level will be set by the Master/Main fader. If that is not so convenient (& assuming it's a PMP4000?) there should be a "Main 2" output & connections with the level controlled separately to Main 1 via a Knob / Rotary control over to the right above the "Mono" fader... Hope that helps... Good Luck!

Hi i have connected the Samson G-track with my macbook. also i using Nicecast & Traktor for radio broadcasting. when i talk from Samson G Track my voice comes only from left speaker. I try the...

This is because the G Track's Mic signal is on the Left channel and the Instrument signal is on the Right channel. You are making a stereo recording when you should be making 2 mono recordings. Does Nicecast have an option to set the track to mono Left channel? Traktor should, but I haven't used it so I can't tell you where the option is. There's probably a Track Input drop-down or something like that.

How can I connect my mackie mixer 1202-vlz3 to my mac mini

use the xlr (3 prong) main left and right outputs of the board. get xlr to 1/4 inch cables. one end will be 3 prong, to plug into the mixer, then the other end will be a mono 1/4 inch plug, like a big headphone plug. Then you have to get a dual mono 1/4 inch to stereo 1/8 inch adapter and plug it noto the line in. if there is no lone in, but a microphone jack instead, you will get a mono signal instead of a stereo signal. in this case, just use 1 channel of the mixer, instead of both of the stereo outs, and use a single mono 1/4 inch to mono 1/8 inch adapter.

the xlr to 1/4 inch cables can be purchased at a music store. the 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch adapters will probably need to be purchased at radio shack.

External mike doesn't work

I'm assuming you have Windows Vista. If so, you may need to change the default microphone, particularly if you have a built-in microphone on the computer.
1. Right-click the speaker icon next to the clock in the system tray.
2. Select "Recording Devices"
3. Select "Microphone" or whatever item you want to record with.

There will be a VU meter showing the input level. Try talking into you mike and see if the VU meter goes up. If so, you're good to go.

If not:
1. Click the "Properties" button in the screen mentioned above
2. Move the "Volume" and "Boost" sliders up.
3. Click "OK."
4. Check your VU meter again.

If this does not work it is possible you selected the properties for the wrong device. Click on another device and repeat the last 4 steps again.

When i record my vocals its only in one channel why!

Hi,

It seems that the recording input source is provided as "Line In" whereas you need to select the "Mic In".
This is because the "Line In" is a stereo input and expects input for both right and left channels whereas the "Mic In" input is a mono input which is the same as our default condensed mic device is.

By the way, you would be able to see the graphic VU meters while recording, weren't they displayed that the recording is done only for one channel ?
Always use VU meters for checking the levels for recording, they are available with almost all recording softwares.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Recording Sony Handycam video footage to video

You have to tell the vcr which input to record on. Instead of a channel try "Line 1" or "input 1" or "Video 1". you can get there by going to channel 01 and pressing channel down a few times. match whats written above the input jacks with what's on the screen.

Low record level for guitar

first of all you want to have your guitar amp at a decent volume but too loud, just enough to be able to get a good signal. when you have done this turn up the gain on your mic channel so that your VU meter (level meter) on the recording software shows a reading of about half way up the meter. If you can not achieve this with the soundcard alone increase the gain on your channel in the software.

This sound guarantee a good signal but as with most recordings you will still have to boost the signal without it peaking. to do this use a compressor or a limiter and turn the gain up. if you use these dynamic effects correctly you will achieve the guitar level you want.

Alternatively you could load your stereo instrumental track into a wav editor, then export each stereo track as a separate mono wav file which you can transfer via usb into you DP-01 and then on you DP-01 import those wav files into two separate tracks which you can pan hard left and hard right so they are in stereo.

Playback only on left speaker

The quick, easy solution is to change your microphone to mono recording. In the attached YouTube clip, I'll show you how to do that.

The short and simple is to go to your Mac HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup. Select your C01U USB device, and set it to 1ch 16bit. This will set the microphone to record in mono, equally over both speakers.
