Question about Lite On LVW-5005 DVD Recorder

Will not initalize any disk.

I insert a new blank disk +R +RW -R and it starts to format the disk but does not finish. I can not record on any disk. Will upgrading the Firmware help with this?

    liteon 5027hc+ with ddw-813s drive in it doesn't record dvds anymore but still play shop bought dvds any help cannot find any firmware desperate

    I have the same problem;I finally got a hold of Lite On Support, their answer was the laser eye is burnt out, they said take it to a shop , THEY

    will NOT fix it!! ..I took it to several area shops and the answer was the same THEY cannot get the parts [made in China} I guess .I found out

    too late " Shut the power "OFF" when not in use the. EYE stays ON like a light bulb shortening the life ..of the eye ..

A firmware upgrade is available here:

You'll need to have a blank CD and a CD/DVD writer in the PC you use to download the file.

Follow the instructions on the website to upgrade your firmware, this should then allow you to write to DVD's once again.

Samsung DVD-VR330 unit will not accept a brand new blank DVD-RW disc---machine says 'load' for 20 seconds, before saying 'open', which it does.
The DVD-RW will work at random, some brands will wok better than others. Memprex, Sony, Maxell are 3 I can use sometimes. Once the disk is accepted it must be formatted. Click that and if accepted, first do a record for say 2 minutes to see if ti works.

If it works don't take it out until you're ready to finalize it.
That's mostly so the disk will be readable in other players, should it not want to go back in, you probably lost the record.
Don't write on the back, use a card and keep it in the cover.

Sometimes I can use those disk's in PC for data.

What is the difference between a DVD+RW and a DVD-RW.
DVD-RW
It is the re-recordable version of the DVD-R. To use this type of media you will need to buy a DVD-RW recorder. The DVD-RW recorders usually record DVD-R, CD-R and CD-RW media, too. Similarly to what happens to DVD-R, DVD-RW disks can be played in newer commercial DVD players without any problems. Older commercial devices cannot recognize the media, refusing to play the disk. To play a DVD-RW disk, commercial players need the disk to be finished. After finishing the disk, you can only record new data in it by reformatting it, which makes you lose all the recorded data.

DVD+RW

It is the re-recordable version of the DVD+R and everything that was said about the DVD+R is valid for the DVD+RW. Only the newest DVD players play movies recorded in disks using this format. There are recorders on the market that can record both DVD-RW disks and DVD+RW ones. These recorders are called DVD?±RW. Similarly to the DVD-RW, the disk needs to be finished to be played in commercial DVD players, and to record new data in the disk after having finished it requires reformatting it, which makes all the data in it to be erased. DVD+RW recorders are usually capable of reading DVD-RW disks (but not of recording them) and vice-versa.

Disk formatting fails every disk. I used new dvd+rw..
What do u mean by formatting?U can't formatted the DVD+RW disc to blank again,after the disc been recorded and used.DVD+RW recodering mean something are recorded u can recorded some elese in it replaced what was there,that all u can do to it.U can't wipe out what in the disc data was there.

I can format dvds or record what is wrong
make sure that when trying to format dvd's you are using the bottom portion of the controls. i know it sounds silly, but the center arrows are for dvd playing and control....ff...rw....play, and the lower controls are more functional.
i'm not sure, but if you put in a blank dvd-r disk, it will allow you to format after going to the "setup" then using the lower arrow moving the selection over DVD. format is allowed in that selection. If you have already recorded on the DVD-R i don't believe it allows you to format, it only allows you to edit or finish.
i'm not sure how the dvd-rw works as i haven't used one in a long time. in theory, you should be able to format a DVD-rw.

Sounds like you are useing the wrong disk!..or the lock is on the on posistion on camera!

Dirty Disk Problem with DVD+R Disks on SONY RDR-GX300?
I have used my Sony GX300 for a couple of years and love it. I prefer +R blanks. The only occasional problem is the media brand. It will not record Fuji 16X, but will record Fuji 4X, which are rare nowadays. I have used TDK 16X with success, but this week bought TDK "lightscribe" blanks, and the GX300 would not record with them.

Sony should provide an upgrade download for the GX300 but does not. On the internet I have been unable to find a list of suitable brands for this DVD recorder, so I have to take risks when shopping. Fortunately, all blanks can be used for my computer so my money is not really wasted.

It's October, 2009 and in Toronto there has been a shortage of DVD blanks for months. I've been told there will be lots available in December.

DVD will not load/format new disk
I have got exactly the same problem. Thought I had found some discs that worked as the first one formatted, since then all have come up with that crappy error protection message. Samsung really should sort this out.
