Picture focus getting worse & worse; now sound becoming intermittent

We have a model PVY5265DT manufactured Sept, 1996. Have NEVER had any probs until a few mos ago. The picture began getting really fuzzy (convergence doesn't help) and now the sound is becoming intermittent- about every 10-15 mins it seems to freeze for a minute w/o sound. Is there any hope for it? We've certainly gotten our money's worth, just hate to give it up.

This is just a sign that your TV is going to die soon. Happened with us too. You can get it temporarily fixed but it will last only like another year. The best idea would be to go buy a new TV. But if you don't want to buy a new one, go the Zenith support website. http://www.zenithservice.com/index_b2c.jsp To contact them click contact us on the top of the page. Hope this helps. :)

You are most likely getting bad capacitors in the main power supply as well as the sweep power supplies. Looking at the age of this unit, the cost to replace the power supply, it will cost you about 350 to 450 to repair this set. You MAY ALSO need to replace the High voltage/ sweep board as well. The best way to properly tell would be to call out a factory authorized Zenith repair center. They should have all the boards available to test the TV with. That would also be a bit more to repair. In my opinion, the cost would not justify the repair. Good Luck with your TV set.

Focus switch ? sorry i bin doing this for 17 years if your set has one it's the 1st one ever ... somthing is over heating being a projection the 1st things i would look into is the Convergence IC's ...since it's is a heating prob get some frezit spray if it is the conv ic's you can hit them with the spray when there acting up and it may start to work if so you found your prob replace then and you be fine ... dont forget the heaksink compound or you will burn up the new IC's

Good luck

i wonder if you've got an EGR valve stuck open that is making it vent exhaust gases into the motor at all times rather than only in wider throttle as it should?

Picture out of focus. type or subtitles are fuzzy Have tried all picture adjustments in "menu"

As the CRT (picture tube) weakens the electron beam will loose some of its intensity. This will cause the beam to become a little wider, and thus the scanned picture will look softer or out of focus. Most of the time, the corners, top, and bottom tend to start getting worse than the center.

Sometimes the focus bias can be cheated a little. Some models of TV sets have a focus pot on the CRT circuit board, or on the high voltage multiplier. This control works in a high voltage area. I suggest you get experienced assistance for this. If you take the TV set over to a local TV shop or find an experienced tech, he could try to adjust the focus for you.

Considering the age and type of set you have, you would be better off getting a new up to date TV set.

Philips 34pw9818 fuzzy screen

Inside the set you should see a large part with a red wire coming out the top. That is the flyback transformer. There will be 1 or 2 controls on the back of it. One should be labeled screen and one focus. Carefully adjust the focus one until the picture is again in focus. Please note that in that area are high voltages (33,000V) that can be dangerous. Be careful where you touch. IT is best to have a mirror so you can see the picture while adjusting the focus control.

Help, zenith pvy5265dt

The name of the board is usually on the middle or back printed in white, or is on a small sticker on the board. If not, if you call zenith they can probably tell you the part (say your asking for an estimate on what the part would cost) and check ebay or something.

36" tube tv. picture fuzzy and out of focus

It sounds like you may have a G1 intermittent short in the picture tube, which unless it is still in warranty would not be worth repairing.
