Maxtor OneTouch II 300Gb can't recover data after a system restore

Hi,

I had to restore windows to it's default settings. So I backed up my entire computer using my Maxtor external HD . Now, I've reinstalled Maxtor but there are "no restore points" available, the "restore" button is greyed out and I can't access my backed up data.

Can anyone help?

I backed up my full system and had a catastrophic failure and had to reinstall my operating system. However, after following the directions, Retrospec did not list any restore points for me to recover my c: drive. I look at my back-up drive and I see the data there ... but the newly installed retrospec does not recognize the point. I'm stuck.

Backed up my PC, Updated XP. Now I have access to data files stored separatly but not to any restore points. Retrospect express is showing 0 restore points and will not even backup the current files.I really hoped to be able to restore to a point before the update, but no go. No apparent viruses, adware or spyware. Will not open in safe mode.

my son restored windows on my computer while I was out of town and I can not access my old files which are somewhere on my computer. I know this as I still have 190GB being used and 50gb of free space, so I know I did not lose my data, just can't access it. I've tried the folder security options but to no evail. any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I had the same problem a few weeks ago.

The way I solved my problem was to make sure when I restored Windows to the default settings that I did it up to the same support packs and hot fixes then when backing up the system with the Maxtor HD. It took me many days to figure this out... was written it the Maxtor HD documentation and it works fine.

Hope this helps.

Have the same problem with my Maxtor II. This is the pits. Got all my pics and files on my maxtor and installed a new hard drive only to find out my cd's will not work. Can't seem to find out why.
Won't be buying a Maxtor again.

more than likely its a power issue. located inside the case cover is an actual hard drive that can be directly hooked to your computer internally. its all plug and play. if you have any questions , feel free to ask. if this info was helpful please leave a testimonial on my fixya page.

Old Maxtor/New Maxtor

If files you are trying to restore are encrypted you will have to use same software to retrieve them.. If not, any file in the external hard drive should be viewable with your windows explorer.

And U do not need drivers for external hard drives. They just plug into your usb port and work with modern OS after the unit is recognized.
