Canon mp160 prints not alligned and dirty

Try doing a Reset.

Reset Printer Canon PIXMA MX310 or Canon MP160

1. Leave the cartridges in the device.
2. Turn off the printer using the on/off button.
3. Keep the reset button pressed and press the on/off button now also. ...
4. Release now the on/off button. ...
5. Now open the printer and press the On / Off button. ...
6. Now the printer with the on/off switch off button and turn on again.

Scanning can be performed with the MP Navigator software. Please open the MP Navigator from your Desktop or the Canon Utilities listing of the Start Menu (Windows) or Applications folder (Mac).

I would say that your Canon MP160's ink head is misaligned. What you need to do to remedy this is to use the software that came with your printer to allign the ink head.

Your may find the option to allign the ink head by entering into Microsoft Windows control panel, followed by double clicking Printers and Faxes.

Then right click your Canon MP160 printer and click properties, some-times the options are there.

A message display is common with insufficient ink cartrigges. Printers that perform several printing tasks is usually common to deplete the ink capacity. Issue: ERROR: Service error 5100 appears while printing from the computer

1. Allow print head to cool down
2. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to ensure a secure connection
3. Press ON/OFF switch to reset the multifunction device
4. Reseat ink cartridge (MP160 / MP180 / MP460)
5. The MP160 may require repair
