Ok, this is very complex and I am waiting for Garmin to get back to me on this, but I thought I would put it out here and see if anyone has any suggestions.
I updated the software on my C550 from 5.7 to 6.0. Since then, the unit would "flash" white for a second intermittently, and it lost the ability to repeat the distance when the lower right button was pressed. I spoke to Garmin, and they told me they had never heard of this, and after I asked, told me how to re-install version 5.7. I did this. Unfortunately, they did NOT tell me this would wipe out my favorites, just like a Master Reset which I did not want to do. The flashing seems to have stopped, but the unit still will not repeat the distance. It DOES say it initially. Further, the Garmin Lock no longer functions. The unit comes right on. I have tried to turn the lock on and off, and the unit asks me to set the PIN, which I do. It then asks me to set the Security Location, which again, I do. It immediately goes back to the Garmin Lock screen, as though it worked, but when the unit is powered off and on, it comes right on without asking for a PIN. Anyone have any experience with this? I have since reset, Master Reset and reinstalled all software.

- This kinda fixed itself. The Garmin Lock came back when I plugged the unit back into the car, and with 6.0 reinstalled is back to flashing and still won't speak distance. Garmin has sent me two replies, one stating that they don't support "older" software and the other stating there is no way to get the favorites back (but they did not address the flashing or loss of spoken distance). It seems to be back to where it was prior to my reinstallation of the old software, minus all my favorites.Jan 18, 2008
- Thanks for the attempt, but I routinely erase the recent selections. Besides, when I re-loaded the previous version, it acted similar to a Master Reset, which removed all of that. I did the Master Reset later as well, so the favorites are good and gone. What I remembered I reinstalled, and as I recall what was in there on a per case basis, I reinstall further. Thanks again, though.
