Some early sony receivers were having a problem with hdmi connections, heard it was a early problem with certain a/v functions of the reciever. never heard of a fix. Try checking the sound field and audio selections for INPUT, coax, opti, and hdmi try using specific one and not AUTO

  • Anonymous Nov 29, 2009

There are several other posts with regard to this problem in this forum. There is a problem with Sony and HDMI the current and only fix is to switch to video 2 and use your optical or coaxial digital cables for sound. Sony only provided for pass through support on early models not any processing. you will get picture but no sound unless you use a good composite video and optical audio cable, SORRY,! Good news is the quality will not suffer.

How do i change the audio settings on my chromebook so that the sound will come from the tv & not the chromebook when i hook it up to the tv monitor using the HDMI cord?

HDMI sound might have to be changed by going into the control panel on the chrome book and redirecting it, the default is the computer speakers.

How to hook up DVD player with TV

The owner manual for the player should have a diagram of connections but a basic hook up is:

1. look to connections on the player--most will have component (red, green, blue for picture and red and white for sound) match those outputs to the rear of the set with the same colored inputs.

OUTPUT from the player to the matching input on the set.

other possible connections include HDMI to HDMI if both have that, the HDMI can have sound issues but needs only one cable where component uses 5.

If you do not have the owner book Google the model number with "manual" to see if you can locate one.

No sound when connecting dvd player with HDMI cable

HDMI is prone to audio issues---it does not for example like being connected at either end with the units powered up and or on.

Try disconnection of power to both units for a short time--do it with the HDMI disconnected. Then connect HDMI back at both ends and power the units on----it cannot hurt and it may help.

The other alternatives are the HDMI in the set is acting up or even bad---If the player has Component outputs try going that way to the set---I have never been able to see a difference in picture or sound quality from component to HDMI.

The only advantage it has is less cables in my view.

Can get great hdmi picture but no sound

HDMI very commonly creates loss of sound problems. A few suggestions: (not knowing the model or brand) The first is that HDMI does not like it when connected with the unit/s powered up and on.

If from a Gaming unit disconnect and reconnect with unit off.

Also if from a cable or sat box do the same---unplug the box and hookup and hook up again and plug box back to power--see if a reboot will restore audio.

Not a sure thing but in our shop we use several set top HD boxes connected to sets being "cooked" or tested.

One day (first time I had seen it) we had 3 plasma sets running out of the same box---one had audio and 2 did not---all three were same brand and model---unplugging the box, waiting a few minutes and plugging back to power---box booted up and all 3 now had sound.

Other possible reasons can be ruled out if the HDMI works on another set etc.

Some sets will have a software/firmware upgrade available for issues like this also.

You need to either connect an optical or digital cable from your audio source. If it is a cable box or DVD player there should be audio outputs in addition to HDM.
Hope this will help...

Unable to play DTS-HD & True-HD

What do you hear? Do all other modes work ok?

If Audio Select (Page 44 and 98) is set to HDMI you will hear silence if no HDMI signal is present. I think AUTO is the best choice here.

-------

On Page 98 of the manual it says a bunch of things concerning automatic signal detection and input selection.

Initial configuration D) INIT. CONFIG
Use this feature to select the settings of the audio input jack select, active decoders and extended surround when you tum on this unit.
....

Audio select AUDIO SELECT
Use this feature to designate the default audio input jack select setting (see page 44) for the input sources connected to the DIGITAL INPUT jacks when you tum on the power of this unit.

HDMI set E)HDMI SET
Use this feature to select the component to play back HDMI audio signals.

Support audio S. Audio
Use this feature to select whether to play back HDMI audio signals on this unit or on another HDMI component connected to the HDMI OUT jack on the rear panel of this unit.
...

CHOICE = RX-V663

FUNCTION
Plays back HDMI audio signals on this unit. The HDMI audio signals input at the HDMI input jacks of this unit are not output to the HDMI component connected to the HDMI OUT jack on the rear panel of this unit.

CHOICE = OTHER
HDMI component connected to the HDMI OUT jack.

NOTES
This unit transmits audio and video signals input at the HDMI input jacks to the HDMI out jack only when this unit is turned on even if "S.AUDIO" is set to "OTHER".

I'd look in these areas for specific guidance.

No sound

The Philips DVP5982 has an odd menu setup for the HDMI sound.
If you get sound from the analog outputs from the unit, but no sound when you use the HDMI output, use this procedure to see if you can restore it:

On the remote control, press Setup.
- Right cursor to the Audio Setup Page
- Go down to Digital Audio Setup
-Right cursor, to get to the screen that shows

Digital Output
LPCM Output
HDMI Audio Setup

Try to go up to the Digital Output setting- if you can't , and instead it shows only HDMI Audio Setup with the "On" highlighted in blue, this is the quirk:

Go into the HDMI Audio Setup, and select "Off", and press Enter, so it's highlighted in blue.

Now it should let you go into the Digital Output menu selection, where you may find it to be on the "Off" setting.

Select "All", and then you can go back to the HDMI Audio Setup and set it to On again, and it should now output sound from the HDMI again.

For some reason, they decided to lock out the Digital Output settings menu when the HDMI Audio is On- go figure.

So you need to turn off the HDMI sound before you turn the sound on.. ;)
