Simply remove magenta cartridge, and make sure there is no tape on the part that connects at bottom or rear. That might be all that's required, also, upon first usage, the printer will run through a cartridge check on main menu panel.
this is not ok. when you have a new cartridge, it is necessary to calibrate the head
Here's a link to user manual which shows startup sequence
according to this manual, this will be oddly done. The doc I see, is for a fax machine, in black mode. Can we confirm the model number of your machine please.

SOURCE: New Magenta Ink is not recognized after installed
Hi, it sounds that the issue can be caused by a defective ink cartridge that installed or a printhead that can recognize magenta ink cartridge. To identify which causes this issue please try the following:
1. Reseat ink cartridge
2. Replace ink cartridge with a specified ink cartridge for your printer.
3. If above steps wont resolved that issue, please call your printer manufacture and ask for service referral or process warranty options.

SOURCE: I installed two new cartridges, black and magenta.
If you have successfully installed ink cartridges before, tried powering down and back up again, posted for a solution on FixYa, then your printer must be factory-serviced.
If you are changing ink cartridges for the first time, find your manual and do the procedure step-by-step. The cartridge-moving mechanisms and sensors are delicate and must operate in a specific sequence.
Never turn off a printer while it is still making noise (unless there is smoke).
Check that the protective tape has been removed from the cartridges before installation. Check that the cartridges are firmly seated by visually inspecting that they are lined up with the other cartridges.
SOURCE: HP all in one won't
Is it a genuine HP cartridge.

Some model will not print if it thinks there is no ink.
