Question about HP LaserJet 2550L Printer

Random position of printing on page when using manual tray

When printing out a letter typed in word on letterhead and using the manual paper tray, sometimes the letter prints out on the correct position of the paper and other times the print is flipped, i.e. the date ends up at the bottom of the letterhead.

I have tried going to my print options and "selecting" the tray, but it still continues to give me problems. Any suggestions

How to make default tray 2 in HP Laserjet p3005n printer

HP printers will default to the highest numbered tray that contains plain letter paper. So on a standard 3005 Tray 2 is the default unless you have the paper type set for something other than plain letter. If you have an additional tray, then Tray 3 would become the default tray if it is set to plain paper. In this case, you would set tray 3 to either bond or letterhead so that the printer would only grab from that tray if you request either tray 3 be used or create a job that calls for that type of paper.

If this does not sort it out, post back again with a complete description of the printer including number of trays, what is loaded in the trays and how they are set for both paper size and paper type. This information can be found by printing a configuration page. This is done by pressing the arrow key on the control panel until display reads information, press checkmark (green button) then use down arrow until Configuration page is displayed and then press checkmark again. Page will print that shows all the settings for the printer.

Every time when printing there is a message MANUAL FEED, load paper and click continue

Please check your printer driver to see if the default tray is tray 2 or other than the manual feed tray and take the paper out of the manual tray.

I have a Dell 5210N mono printer. And I want to use the manual feed tray as a second paper drawer for letterhead paper only, ie leave a whole stack of paper in the manual feed. Then when I select manual...

Check the software provided or installed on your Computer you use for work(printing software), look for print properties, check for print settings, look for manual Feed, Under manual Feed, set it for letterheads, however this has to correspond with the Applications you are using to print letterheads out of( under print, into the preferrences you should be able to have the settings as well). If your printer software does have these settings, then you will have to do it Manually upon every print.

Won't print

The printer is giving that message as the print job sent to the printer is asking for the correct paper type. Check the program you used and its print setup in that program to make sure the correct paper is selected. Software overrides hardware settings on a printer.Another thing is double check the tray position tab and make sure it is set to letter and locked in that position. If the paper tray is not set it can also think that the paper in the tray is a different paper size.

Make sure the green part in the back of the tray is set exactly to the type of paper you are using. For example, make sure that if you are using letter paper, the paper size selector is set exactly on letter. if it already is try to move it off letter, and then line it up correctly again with letter.

Hello Uncle123,
I don't have a user manual at my fingers, but you can go into "additional functions". I don't recall if it is within the"common settings" tab or "copy settings" but you can designate any paper tray to be "unique". For example you can designate tray 2 as "colored paper, or recycled paper" .In which case, if you are feeding from tray 1 and it runs out the copier now knows that tray 2 has a type of paper that is different than the current run.Even if the paper size is the same. I hope this helps. Take care. ..............................spinal.........................

Is there away of getting around the paper orientation when I duplex.

This cant be right, if you print on one side, then it is the same as when it prints the first page of a duplex print.

Paper should be face down, head to front for both, make sure you are using duplex driver for your printer and duplex option is ticked. (4250DuplexTwotrayNetwork)\

make sure trays on machine are identified with correct papertype (tray 2 plain and tray 3 letterhead or vice versa)

printer I beleive has setting too enable duplex in print menu.

tray one in manual feeder on these.

When I set these up sometimes I install the print driver twice, ones set to use letterhead and the other plain, so customer can just choose which ever one at print time.

Usally it is set up that you go to driver and select tray or windows decides depending on what doc type is set on what you are printing.

So you need to check settings on printer paper handling and printer menu, you also need to check driver on pc, if on a network you may need to have admin rights to change driver config on server if your system requires it. But you need to check drive has coorect tray/paper type and options too

You also need to check doc type settings on individual document being printed

I have 1000's of customers, running HP (including 4250dtn and this has never been a issue raised.)

Ignore manual, stick letter head in tray 2/3 face down front and print single sided, then use same tray and do it duplex, it will do as the first one did then turn it over and print other side.

I think most customers don't duplex on letterhead, they use that as cover then duplex on plain, but I cant see it not working if you did, otherwise I would of come across it buy now, this machines format has been around for ages and they are great workhourse printers once noisy swing plate gear fault is fixed (common 4250 fault)

Printing using various trays

Set tray (3? ) or other non standard paper type trays to type setting of letterhead and set normal paper tray (2) paper type to plain .

You do this on printer keyboad find menu then find paper handling, tray xxx, paper type. xxxx...set or tick

Via operations panel you can also printout current settings too to see if you have done the change if you do one before and after

Then test,

There are other settings on your printer that can effect this and driver configuation and doc type setting on pc that can effect this also but try step above first and report back if still having issues. Is it run by a server? Do you abity to change driver settings on your pc?
