Sounds like you have water in the oil which means you could have a blown head gasket. Can you tell what got in the oil. Is it antifreeze or gas. If gas you probably have a injector sticking open.

could very well be. alot of cars the light wont come on if the o2 sensor is bad. bad o2 can cause car to use alot of gas. may be more than one sensor.

I have a 2002 Avalon w/ a 3.0 liter engine. When I changed the fluid and added 4 quarts the oil after warming up is way above the dip stick line. Did I add too much?

Depends on what the fluid was you changed??? Did you change the oil? How about the filter? 4 qts should not go past the full line. If you left the filter in there, then yo might have too much, the filter holds quite a bit, maybe half qt. The filter needs to be changed with the oil every time, most important, If you go out now, but a filter, take it off, replace it, you roil level should be right. You won't lose anything but what has to come out anyway, too much oil makes a mess in engine. I don't 1/2 qt. will do anything though. It will be gone in a week or 2. Check it out, hope this helps.

I would always change Auto fluid & filter every 50,000 miles irrespective of what the manufacture states - it's cheaper than a new transmission!

I changed the oil and air filter on my 2002 Dodge Stratus. Also replaced spark plugs but it still idles rough while in gear.

sparkplug wires are a very common cause of misfires creating rough idling. as they age they tend to leak, meaning the soark jumps out of the casing to a point one the engine its not supposed to. Start there and if u have a check engine light see whats thats on for, its free at most autozones.

My 2002 Dodge Stratus ES idles rough while in gear. My check engine light is not on.

First I would try some fuel injector cleaner, if that does not help, then I would check and change plugs and wires. It also may be time for oil change, and air filter.

Oil - 4-5000 miles
Brake - 2-3 years
Tranny - Every 5 years

2002 dodge neon automatic transmission, wont shift out of first gear, reverse works fine possible fixes for this issue, just had radiator replaced because of leaking trans fluid

i'm guessing tranny fluid level is good and smells good... does the speedometer work.. if not have to correct that first if it does work is the check engine light on... has it been scanned.....they have terrible time with the transmission control module and selinoid pack let me know

did you drain the fluid, it may have lots of metal and be really gummed up causing it to over heat and burn off. Aside from that the most commonly overlooked "check engine" proplem is the O2 sensors, there should be 2 of them

There are literally thousands of reasons the check engine light can go on for. The first step to solving the problem is to have the computer scanned and get the code that turned the light on. Places like autozone will scan your cars computer for free and give you the codes. Get the codes and we'll be able to help you further.

What if they can't pull the codes? I went to O'Reilly's and AutoZone. Neither were able to do it.

MY ENGINE LIGHT WONT SHUT OF, MY CODES THAT COME UP ARE P1884 DRIVER 5 LINE 4, THE OTHER IS P0442 THE BOOK SIAD THIS ONE IS EVAP/LEAK MAYBE GAS CAP, BUT 1ST ONE P1884 I HAVE NO CLUE.

I had the same problem, had it the engine computer scanned. Ended up being my O2 sensor. Easy fix. Yours could be different though.
